Holiness is Contagious: Why God's Power is Bigger Than Your Spouse's Sin 
 
Are you afraid the world will pull you down? Worried that your unbelieving spouse will contaminate your faith? In this powerful message from 1 Corinthians 7:10-16, Pastor Alex destroys "little God theology" and reveals a truth that will change how you see marriage, friendship, and evangelism forever: **holiness is contagious.** 
 
We're continuing our series through Corinthians with one of the most challenging passages in Scripture. Paul addresses two critical groups: Christian couples considering divorce and believers married to unbelievers. Both situations reveal something radical about God's character that most churches get wrong. 
 
**This message unpacks:** 
• The communicable and incommunicable attributes of God (immutable, infinite, impassable) 
• Why "little God theology" keeps Christians trapped in fear 
• What Jesus actually said about divorce in Matthew 5, 19, and Mark 10

**Here's the truth that will set you free:** When Christ touched the leper, the leper didn't infect Jesus—Jesus healed the leper. That's how powerful God's holiness is. And that same holiness lives in YOU. 
 
Paul's message is astronomically counter-cultural. In a Greco-Roman world where "no-fault divorce" was as easy as walking out the door, Paul says: **stay married.** Why? Because your holiness is contagious. Your unbelieving spouse will be made holy. Your children will be holy. Not saved automatically—but positioned in a power sphere where God's transforming holiness operates. 
 
This isn't about tolerating abuse or staying in danger—Christians always err on the side of life. But it IS about understanding that you don't save people by avoiding them. You save them by being in their lives while God does the heavy lifting. 
 
We end with a powerful reflection on communion and what it means that the table can heal—because what it points to is REAL.

1 Corinthians 7:17-40 – Marriage and Singleness

Does 1 Corinthians 7:12-16 say that a Christian can marry an unbeliever? 
 
“To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. 13 If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 15 But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace. 16 For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?” 
 
Notice Paul is clearly referring to a couple who is already married. Sometimes two unbelievers get married and then one of them becomes a Christian. This was especially relevant in Paul’s day because Christianity was new, so there was obviously going to be a lot of new conversions that created mismatches in marriage. 
 
Paul says in instances where the non-Christian wants to remain with the Christian, the Christian should not divorce him or her. However, if the non-Christian wants to leave, the Christian spouse is free to let him or her go. 
Nowhere in this passage is there any instructions about a Christian marrying a non-Christian as a way to save him or her. The point is that a Christian spouse has made a commitment to their spouse in marriage. They should seek to witness to their unbelieving spouse and not divorce him or her. This is a passage about not divorcing. It is not a passage encouraging marrying a non-believer.

Disciples should embrace God’s design for marriage and singleness, rejecting divorce. 
 
Disciples should embrace God’s design for marriage. 1 Corinthians 7:1-5 
- We should embrace God’s design for marriage to pursue holiness. 7:1-2 
- We should embrace God’s design for marriage in mutual fulfillment. 7:3 
- We should embrace God’s design for marriage in mutual surrender. 7:4 
- We should embrace God’s design for marriage, ceasing deprivation. 7:5 
 
Disciples should embrace God’s design for singleness. 1 Corinthians 7:1, 6-9

- We should embrace God’s design for singleness, recognizing it as a gift from God. 7:6-8
