This show is about Genesis 6:5-12 from translations of both the Hebrew (H) and Greek (G) texts: 
 
(H) 6:5 But Jaho(h)-ah began to see much evil because of mankind in the earth, and every type of thought [or, “every form of concept”] in a person’s mind was pure evil all the time. 
(G) 6:5 But Lord God [Jaho(h)-ah] was watching, because the bad things of men were increased upon the earth and everything, anything he carefully intended to do in his heart was based on evil things every single day [or, “all the days”]. 
 
(H) 6:6 So Jaho(h)-ah began to feel sorry he had made mankind in the earth, and he began to feel displeasure within himself. 
(G) 6:6 Then God [Jaho(h)-ah] was forced to evaluate what was happening, for he made mankind upon the earth and now it was of great concern. 
 
(H) 6:7 Then Jaho(h)-ah began to say, “I will erase mankind whom I have created from upon areas of the earth, from mankind, to land animal, to crawling creature, to bird of the sky heavens because I have felt sorry that I made them." 
(G) 6:7 And God said, “I will eliminate from the surface of the earth mankind whom I made, from mankind to land animal, to reptiles, to the bird of sky heaven since I felt great anger because I made them." 
 
(H) 6:8 But Noah found approval in the eyes of Jaho(h)-ah. 
(G) 6:8 But Noe found the right standing [or, “grace”] in the sight of Lord God [Jaho(h)-ah]. 
 
(H) 6:9 These are the past times of Noah: Noah was someone who did things right. He was just right in every way during his generation. Noah walked here and there [or, “lived life”] with God. 
(G) 6:9 These are the histories of Noe: Noe was a righteous man, he being everything necessary among his generation. Noe was pleasing to God. 
 
(H) 6:10 Then Noah had three sons called Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 
(G) 6:10 Also, Noe brought forth three sons called Sem, Cham, and Iapheth. 
 
(H) 6:11 But the earth began to lose its value according to God, when the earth became filled with error [or, “what is not right”]. 
(G) 6:11 But the earth became unusable in the sight of God, and it was filled with moral failures. 
 
(H) 6:12 So God began to notice and, behold! The earth lost its value because it had become filled with error. All of humankind, where it concerned his chosen path, was in error upon the earth. 
(G) 6:12 Then Lord God saw the earth and it had become destroyed, because all humankind [or, “all flesh”] destroyed its chosen path upon the earth.

Man’s Wickedness; God calls Noah ( Genesis 6:1-22 ) 
6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 
6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 
6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 
6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 
6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 
6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 
6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 
6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 
6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 
6:10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 
6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 
6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 
6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 
6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. 
6:15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 
6:16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. 
6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. 
6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. 
6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 
6:20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. 
6:21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.

See How God Sees things - Genesis 6:5-12 ; 2 Peter 3:8,9

We are a church that believes in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, therefore we exist to know Jesus and make him known in the valley and throughout the world. We desire to bring renewal, restoration and redemption as we tell those around us of the life-giving message found in Jesus. We act by serving those who are in need because we are called to be people of faith and action.
Our Mission

The name - Illuminate Community Church. The word "illuminate" means, "to shine the light." It's our mission to shine the light on Jesus by knowing Him and making Him known. There are many metaphors in the Bible that use light as a symbol of God's truth. Jesus said this about himself in John 8:12 "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Illuminate Community

Last week we looked into the lives of two brothers who lived long ago. Their names are Cain and Abel. Their relationship was cut short because one killed the other. Family dysfunction within the first family to walk the earth. Cain doesn’t show remorse and has no interest in doing the right thing or in doing what God desires. God gives him the opportunity to make things right but he doesn’t take it. As a consequence, God tells Cain he will be a wanderer on the earth. In the last half of Genesis chapter 4 this is exactly what we see. Cain is a nomad but if you remember from last week it didn’t have to be this way. He could have turned things around. He could have changed but instead, he remained defiant. He settles into a new life and has a family. But his descendants turn out to be just like him and worse. In fact, Cain has a great great great grandson named Lamech and he brags about how wicked he is by claiming to be ten times more violent than his ancestor. The world is filled with people who constantly think evil thoughts and always take evil action. 
 
But it gets much worse… 
 
In Genesis chapter 6 we learn that demons are inhabiting men and having sex with women. All of this paints a picture of the height of human depravity and the condition which God mercifully brings to an end by a flood. There is one righteous man (not perfect) whom God selects to do a new work: Noah. For over a hundred years he will preach a message of hope but none will listen. All the while he’s building a massive boat. Then one day begins just like any other. People are going about their lives and the sky opens, water falls and it doesn’t stop. People are caught unaware. 
 
Jesus placed a high value on the flood story. (That’s how we know it’s true.) 
 
For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Matthew 24:37-39 
 
His point is simple. He said his return would be just like the flood. Some will not be ready. You see, one day God’s patience will come to an end. His justice will be brought to the earth by his son. The way of rescue is through him. We make ourselves ready by being obedient to God. Here’s the recipe: Love God + love others = prepared.

5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 
 
9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 
 
11 Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
