Today’s study opens by going into more detail associated with the end of Chapter 9 pertaining to God’s eternal promises to the Jews. Kevin shows from related scriptures in Ezekiel 36 that God brought the “stiff-necked” Jews into the promised land in Moses’ day because He keeps His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In our generation, we have seen God keep His promises by miraculously bringing the Jews back into the land of Israel in preparation for the “last days”. 
 
Later in the study, in Deuteronomy 10:12-14, Moses says, "And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good? Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God, also the earth with all that is in it.” 
 
Kevin emphasizes that as we approach the time of God’s judgment on this wicked world, it is imperative that the wise person ponder the five things that “God requires of us”. In the truths of this 3,500 year old exhortation from God, we find that they are just as applicable today as they were then. There is time for the sinner to repent of their sins against a Holy God and come to saving faith in Jesus before it is too late.

Deuteronomy 10:1-13 (ESV) 
“At that time the Lord said to me, ‘Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to me on the mountain and make an ark of wood. 2 And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets that you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.’ 3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two tablets of stone like the first, and went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. 4 And he wrote on the tablets, in the same writing as before, the Ten Commandments[a] that the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. And the Lord gave them to me. 5 Then I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark that I had made. And there they are, as the Lord commanded me.” 
 
6 (The people of Israel journeyed from Beeroth Bene-jaakan[b] to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried. And his son Eleazar ministered as priest in his place. 7 From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with brooks of water. 8 At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord to stand before the Lord to minister to him and to bless in his name, to this day. 9 Therefore Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers. In Deuteronomy 9:1-10:11 Moses continues to explain what loving God with all your heart, soul, and strength means.  Here he addresses the question concerning why God is bringing the Israelites into the land.  What do they contribute to their salvation?  Ultimately, they contribute only their sin.  They are not brought into the land because of their righteousness but only by the grace of God.  Salvation is by grace alone.  The gospel according to Moses is the same as the gospel according to Christ.  As it was with the people of God in the wilderness, so it is with us.  We are saved only through grace and there can be no boasting.  Love for God develops as we recognize his grace in salvation apart from works.
