Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: 
 
“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 
Dress for action like a man; 
I will question you, and you make it known to me. — Job 38:1-3 
 
So at the end of the drama, God enters center stage. Job has been through a major ordeal. But the ordeal just became more significant. A whirlwind appears out of which God's voice thunders. God ignores everyone and focuses all his attention on Job. And God is about to present him with a litany of questions. Unanswerable questions. 
 
And then his thundering voice states this — "Dress for action like a man!" 
 
Every time I read this, it just sends chills down my spine. I cannot imagine hearing it from God. But eventually, we will all face this encounter. We will all hear his voice. Jesus says this about this day. 
 
When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. — Matthew 25:31-32 
 
Knowing that this day is coming for us all, today is the day to prepare. Now, not later. And we must be dressed for action. And Isaiah, the prophet, tells us how to dress for this moment. He states: 
 
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; 
my soul shall exult in my God, 
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; 
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness. — Isaiah 61:10 
 
The only way to dress for action and stand before God is to clothe yourself in his righteousness and not your own.

38 Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: 
 
2 “Who is this that obscures my plans 
with words without knowledge? 
3 Brace yourself like a man; 
I will question you, 
and you shall answer me. 
4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? 
Tell me, if you understand. 
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! 
Who stretched a measuring line across it? 
6 On what were its footings set, 
or who laid its cornerstone— 
 
 
One of the biggest mistakes of people is to put God in a box. This is not a mistake of ordinary people only. Even a great philosopher such as Immanuel Kant made the same mistake. He said that man should devote to things that can be reasoned within the framework of the human mind. If anything does not fit in the framework, we should discard it. This is a very rough representation of Kant's philosophy. But that's the main idea of his philosophy. The result is that he removed God from 
Man because God doesn't fit in the framework of man. I am not sure whether that was what Kant intended or not. But it is clear that such a man-centered mindset influenced the humanistic western culture. Job, despite his righteousness, made a similar mistake. He had his own box of ideas and experiences. He tried to understand God through his own framework. It didn't work. He couldn't fully understand what God does. That made him restless despite his faith in God. Finally, God breaks His silence. He began to speak to Job out of the storm. Basically what God said to Job was "why do you attempt to put me in your tiny box? I can never fit in there. ". Job, in the biggest storm of his life, complained and asked where was God. God Spoke in the storm as if He is saying that He was there all the time! What's your impression of this scene? Do you get the message? I am sure you do. Yes, our God is awesome God. He is the creator, controller, and caretaker. You may do well to trust your life in His hand even at the storm of life. He is there, all the time! Amen!

Rev. Ron Hanko on Job 38-39: “Why does God speak of these things to Job? We expect to read of God’s power and wisdom and grace as savior, even of his sovereign right as judge, but instead he speaks of his works as creator and as the God of providence. Why? We must understand that God did not come to Job to answer his questionings, his ‘why?’ A careful reading of Job 38-41 will show that God gives no explanation at all of Job’s trials. He does not tell Job what went on in heaven before Job’s trouble began. He never speaks of Satan’s part in Job’s losses. He does not even repeat what Elihu had said about his gracious purpose in affliction. What Elihu had said was true but was not an explanation of God’s ways. Indeed, though Elihu has confessed that ‘all things work together for good to them that love God’ (Rom. 8:28), the question of how they work and why they work for good remains unanswered. God’s revelation of himself and his works to Job is God’s way of saying to Job, ‘My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways’ (Isa. 55:8) ... Job has already profited from his trials. he has come through them to a stronger faith in his redeemer and to a greater assurance of eternal life. Though unwittingly, he has disproved Satan’s slander and proved that God’s grace makes friends and lovers of God, not mercenaries. He has by his patience proved the efficacy of God’s electing purpose, the cleansing power of the blood of Christ, not yet shed, and the sovereignty and graciousness of the Spirit’s work” (Job: God’s Sovereignty in Suffering, pp. 127-128).

Job’s words, and those of his three friends, have ended. Elihu has also finished speaking, seemingly preparing the way for the Lord. The sky has cleared (37:21–24), anticipating the most important speeches: those of Almighty God. What will he say? What does Job need to hear? What does Job need to do? For one thing, he needs to learn to doubt his doubts about God. And I dare say that we have the same need. These final chapters in Job are designed to do this. The Lord’s first speech (38:1–40:5) can be considered under the following headings: 
 
1. God the Creator (38:1–21) 
2. God the Controller (38:22–38) 
3. God the Carer (38:39–39:30) 
4. Job the Convicted (40:1–5)
