This week in our final study in Luke Chapter 9, Christ reveals 7 heart attitudes that create a real impediment to discipleship.  And with all the noise the political landscape is putting before us in the present hour, it is comforting to understand that God is in control, that you and I as Christians can put our heads comfortably upon our pillows at night and rest in His sovereignty. Rather than continuing to get sucked into the vortex of all this garbage, leave the division behind and press back into discipleship – press back into integrity.  Get your Word on with us get real.

We've all looked down upon or thought less of someone because they were different or weren't part of the right group. Jesus confronts this sinful narcissism and elitism in his disciples, and we must confront it in ourselves and in our churches.

A word appreciating my benefactors:

This man, Des Ford, from Australia has influenced me indirect or directly for over 40 years. All that I have become in any virtuous way is a direct result of his teaching. I use what I have learned from him to measure all others. He has kept me away from teachings that are rubbish. He sees Jesus in all of scripture and makes an understanding of Him more clear as a result.

Edward Fudge was a true elder brother. Like an elder brother he was much superior in many ways. Yet in his generosity, he treated me as an equal. A truly spiritual brother was he. I desire to be like him.

Mark Lanier a true example of Christian excellence letting Christ define his ethics in work, study and play. Only he could make a term like "bible nerd" desirable. His library, a world class Theological Library is his gift to any and all who will use it responsibly.

Pitfalls on the Path

Have you ever come down from grand moment in life? You’re on this high and then you come down. Back to reality and it’s business as usual. It can be quite disorienting! 
 
That’s similar to what’s happening with Jesus in Luke 9. He goes from glory on the mountaintop and then back down to this broken world. As this chapter closes, Luke narrates a raft of discipleship failures in rapid succession. You see, Jesus will soon depart. And the disciples are going to be the ones who will carry on this Gospel movement to the ends of the earth. But they’ve got a whole lot to learn from Jesus. 
 
And they say the best way to learn is to learn from other peoples’ mistakes. So as the disciples get mired inthese pitfalls along the path, let’s lean in and learn from their mistakes. Because we need to learn the same lessons that Jesus is teaching them. So let’s join up with the twelve on the road with Jesus. 
 
There are 6 Pitfalls on the path that can mire us as we seek to follow Jesus… 
 
Pitfall #1 – Self-Reliance (Luke 9:37-42)

• Stay Faithful 
 
Pitfall #3 – Prideful Ambition (9:46-48) 
• Stay Humble 
 
Pitfall #4 – Jealous Comparison (9:49-50) 
• Stay Focused 
 
Pitfall #5 – Abusive Power (9:51-56) 
• Stay Gracious 
 
Pitfall #6 – Rival Allegiance (9:57-62) 
• Stay Committed 
 
Takeaway: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” – Luke 9:23

Pitfalls on the Path

Have you ever come down from grand moment in life? You’re on this high and then you come down. Back to reality and it’s business as usual. It can be quite disorienting!

That’s similar to what’s happening with Jesus in Luke 9. He goes from glory on the mountaintop and then back down to this broken world.
