23 엘리사가 거기서 벧엘로 올라가더니 그가 길에서 올라갈 때에 작은 아이들이 성읍에서 나와 그를 조롱하여 이르되 대머리여 올라가라 대머리여 올라가라 하는지라 
24엘리사가 뒤로 돌이켜 그들을 보고 여호와의 이름으로 저주하매 곧 수풀에서 암곰 둘이 나와서 아이들 중의 사십이 명을 찢었더라

2 Kings 2: 
23 He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” 
24 And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys. 
25 From there he went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria. (ESV)

C. S. Lewis once had met a sort of trap in which faith could not be verified by our reason. 
All the heroes of the Bible have evidences on their belief when they practiced their faith by God’s word in the Old Testament or using Jesus’ name in the New Testament. 
Simply speaking we have Jesus as God’s word in our mind mystically. We believe also God can do anything. God is omnipotent. 
 
We cannot verify the power of the word before we apply it to this world. 
 
One of the examples on applying God’s word presents in the story of mocked Elisha. 
 
Elisha was mocked by boisterous mobs ‘Go up, you baldhead!’ (23) 
‘Go up’ Hebrew of עָלָה, the same sound and meaning of Korean 올라had been compared with Elijah who disappeared, ‘go up’ by a whirlwind. 
And ‘baldhead’ Elisha was compared with hairy Elijah. 
 
These juvenile kids were mocking Elisha ‘You are not like the legend prophet Elijah; you are just a powerless shabby pastor! 
Our war in faith is nothing but mocking to myself or by other, ‘you are not like Jesus so you do not have God’s word.’ ‘If you have God’s word then verify it.’ 
 
In 24, Elisha was verifying God’s word in the name of the LORD. 
He had God’s word when he cursed them. That word was in Leviticus 26: 22 and Deuteronomy. 1) 
Also the Christian doesn’t have to curse others because Jesus already did for us. (John 3: 18) 
 
We can verify the power of God’s word when we apply it to our own situations.

The incredible story of God's upside-down grace to us in Jesus Christ.

There is something upside-down about Jesus. In our world, it’s always a fight to get to the top. If life is like a pyramid, everyone wants to get to the top, and it doesn’t seem to matter how many people get squashed along the way. 

But there is something upside-down about Jesus. He takes the pyramid that everyone is trying to get to the top of, and he flips it upside-down. In inexplicable grace, he put himself on the bottom. He left heaven to come as our Savior to earth. He humbled himself below everyone else and died the death we deserve on the cross for our sins. Who does that? There’s something upside-down about Jesus!

That’s where you and I come in: Jesus did all of that for us! Perfect Jesus was punished so that we sinners are forgiven? That’s upside-down. That’s Jesus! When he rose from the dead, he opened heaven to you and me. Life in the face of death? That’s Jesus - our Upside-Down Savior!

15 Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. 16 And they said to him, “Behold now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. It may be that the Spirit of the Lord has caught him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley.” And he said, “You shall not send.” 17 But when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, “Send.” They sent therefore fifty men. And for three days they sought him but did not find him. 18 And they came back to him while he was staying at Jericho, and he said to them, “Did I not say to you, ‘Do not go’?”

Baka tinangay siya ng Espiritu ng PANGINOON at inihagis sa isang bundok, o sa isang libis.” At kanyang sinabi, “Hindi, huwag mo silang susuguin.” 17 Subalit nang kanilang pilitin siya hanggang sa siya'y mapahiya, ay kanyang sinabi, “Suguin sila.” Kaya't sila'y nagsugo ng limampung lalaki, at naghanap sila sa loob ng tatlong araw, ngunit hindi siya natagpuan. 18 Nang sila'y bumalik sa kanya, samantalang siya'y naghihintay sa Jerico at kanyang sinabi sa kanila, “Di ba sinabi ko sa inyo, huwag kayong humayo?” 
 
THE FUTILE SEARCH. 
 
The sons of the prophets met Elisha and bowed to the ground before him. By this act, they acknowledged that the succession of Elisha as a full-pledged prophet took place. But, it is puzzling why they insisted to search for Elijah. If Elijah has been taken up into heaven, why look for him on earth? 
 
The answer lies in their ignorance of what really had happened. Only Elisha had seen him taken by a chariot and horses of fire like whirlwind. This was the very requirement for Elisha to receive the blessing he requested from Elijah, that was, a double portion of his spirit. The sons of the prophets did not. They were bystanders at a far distance. 
 
Let’s be like the Bereans to search the scriptures diligently. But, if something is incomprehensible. God meant it to be a secret. And we should accept it as it is. [Deut 29:29] Moreover, it is an important thing to note is for us not to be obsessed for the sole purpose of understanding. But, it is in our desire for obedience. omewhere. To their knowledge, Joshua did not, after all, succeed until Moses was dead? And, have they not seen Elisha tearing down his clothes as a sign of grief? There are no easy answers. 
 
One thing we can learn is to trust God’s word as declared even though at times it is incomprehensible. Sometimes like the sons of the prophets, we waste time in spending so much time to understand rather than obeying His revealed word simply. Had they received Elisha’s words, they should not have wasted their time in a futile search of Elijah. 
 
Let’s be like the Bereans to search the scriptures diligently. But, if something is incomprehensible. God meant it to be a secret. And we should accept it as it is. [Deut 29:29] Moreover, it is an important thing to note is for us not to be obsessed for the sole purpose of understanding. But, it is in our desire for obedience.

2 Kings 2:23-25 (ESV) 
 
23 He [Elisha the Prophet] went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” 
 
24 And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys. 
 
25 From there he went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
