16Třetího dne, když nastalo jitro, se na hoře objevilo hřmění, blesky a ohromný oblak a ozval se velmi silný zvuk beraního rohu. Všechen lid v táboře se třásl. 17Mojžíš vyvedl lid z tábora vstříc Bohu a oni se postavili na úpatí hory. 18Celá hora Sínaj byla zahalená kouřem, protože na ni sestoupil Hospodin v ohni. Vystupoval z ní kouř jako kouř z hrnčířské pece a celá hora se velice třásla. 19Zvuk beraního rohu byl stále silnější a silnější, Mojžíš mluvil a Bůh mu hlasitě odpovídal. 20Hospodin sestoupil na horu Sínaj, na vrchol hory; pak Hospodin zavolal Mojžíše na vrchol hory a Mojžíš vyšel vzhůru. 21Hospodin řekl Mojžíšovi: Sestup a varuj lid, aby nezkoušeli proniknout k Hospodinu, aby ho viděli, aby jich mnoho nepadlo. 22Také kněží, kteří přistupují k Hospodinu, se musí posvětit, aby se na ně Hospodin neobořil. 23Mojžíš řekl Hospodinu: Lid nemůže vystoupit na horu Sínaj, protože jsi nás sám varoval slovy: Vyznač hranici kolem hory a posvěť ji. 24A Hospodin mu řekl: Jdi, sestup a zase vystoupíš ty a Áron s tebou. Avšak kněží a lid ať nezkouší proniknout a vystoupit k Hospodinu, aby se na ně neobořil. 25Mojžíš tedy sestoupil k lidu a řekl jim to.
