Our Father, you are the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To you belong salvation, glory, honor, and praise before all time and now and forever! You created us and have sustained us, each and every one. All people great and small owe you a debt of gratitude. Yet we have sinned by breaking your laws without trembling, corrupting ourselves without shame, stiffening our necks and hardening our hearts often without restraint. Your name we have taken in vain. Your Sabbaths we have profaned. Your Word we have slighted. Your threats we have defied. Your messengers we have scorned. We have been daring when called to be fearful, merry when called to be sober, and careless when called to be discreet. So many times our faith has been choked by the world with its temporal cares and deceitful riches, and we are to blame. How prone are we to become spiritually dull! Please forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Minister: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
Unison: That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ, who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and redeemed me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that all things must work together for my salvation. Wherefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live unto Him.
