Our Father, you are wise, kind, generous, and true. There is none like you in all the earth! There is no one holy like the Lord! You are the everlasting God who lives forever and reigns supreme. Often, we have sinned by seeking worldly amusement rather than godly celebration, prizing foolish laughter rather than pious rejoicing, or valuing selfish merriment rather than unselfish cheer. You have given good gifts to enjoy, yet we have used and abused them for selfish ends rather than righteous goals. The Ethiopian cannot change his skin, and the leopard cannot change his spots, and we who are accustomed to do evil cannot do good by ourselves. Our hope lies not in strength of mind or power of will or intensity of affection. Rather, we venture all upon the Lord who is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Please extend your mercy and forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Confession of Faith: The Heidelberg Catechism #1
Minister: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
Unison: That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ, who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and redeemed me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that all things must work together for my salvation. Wherefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live unto Him.
