The Practical Works of David Clarkson, B. D., Fellow and Tutor of Clare Hall, Cambridge, Vol. 1 (Classic Reprint)
Excerpt from The Practical Works of David Clarkson, B. D., Fellow and Tutor of Clare Hall, Cambridge, Vol. 1

It is, however, unquestionable that, in respect of the qualities of a theological writer, Clarkson occupied a very high place amongst the divines of the Puritan period. His vigorous and clear mind, his extensive and varied learning, his fervent piety and zeal for the glory of God and the good of men, enabled him to produce writings remarkable for soundness of reasoning and fervency of appeal, and adorned with the graces of a tasteful eloquence. There can be no difference of Opinion as to the propriety of including in the present series, at least the non-controversial portion Of these writings - the theological and practical, as distin guished from the ecclesiastical portion and we do not doubt that many readers will regard them as, upon the whole, the most valu able, as they will certainly be found to be among the most generally attractive, of all the works of which the series is to be composed.
