Van Dixhoorn on the Ministry of the Word – Attempts at Honesty
In studying for a class on the Westminster Confession of Faith, it was recommended to me that I get a copy of Chad Van Dixhoorn’s commentary on the confession, entitled Confessing the Faith.I began by reading the commentary on Chapter 14 of the confession (since this is the beginning of the session that we will discuss in the next class session). It should be added that the Word of God can increase and strengthen our faith. What new Christian and what seasoned saint will not confess that his or her faith is often weak? I could fill my podcast app with enough teaching to listen all my waking hours. But there is something very special about hearing the Word of God proclaimed by capable preachers along with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I read recently, that for many years, Martyn Lloyd-Jones resisted having audio recordings made of his sermons for this reason.

In Acts 20:24 Paul speaks of “the gospel of the grace of God.” Like aspects of the gospel in prior posts, this too is related to New Jerusalem. He continues in Acts 20:32, “I commit you to Go…

A Recipe for Discernment, Part 3
True biblical discernment isn’t developed by osmosis. It’s cultivated over time, as a believer matures in faith. The last few days, we’ve been considering the essential ingredients for discernment, including consistent prayer, the pursuit of godly wisdom, moral integrity, and the necessity of faithful Bible teaching and teachers. But none of those elements can function

Friday’s Featured Sermon: “The Reality of God’s Wrath”
Recently, I conducted an Internet search for “songs about the grace of God.” Among the results was one website that comprised sixty-two pages of such songs. My curiosity piqued, I then searched “songs about the wrath of God.” Not surprisingly, the results were not nearly as robust. Today’s Christian music seems mostly designed to engage

The True Source of Spiritual Life
People don’t always do the things they know they should. Whether it’s eating vegetables, paying bills promptly, or getting to bed on time, some people’s everyday actions defy what they know to be best. That’s often the same for believers with our Bibles. God’s people may recognize the importance of feeding on God’s Word even
