All this and heaven too! A big house and a bulging bank account have become the definition of the "prosperity" teaching that is still sweeping through the church. At one time, Jim Bakker was a leading proponent of the philosophy that promised, "God wants you to be rich". But after his ministry fell apart and he was convicted and sentenced to federal prison, he studied Scripture and re-examined his earlier beliefs. Now he knows why his earlier theology was wrong and offers an enlightening and practical guide to understanding and avoiding the dangers of materialistic Christianity in the light of the second coming of Christ.
James Orsen "Jim" Bakker is an American televangelist, a former Assemblies of God minister, and a former host (with his then-wife Tammy Faye Bakker) of The PTL Club, a popular evangelical Christian television program. A sex scandal led to his resignation from the ministry. Subsequent revelations of accounting fraud brought about his imprisonment and divorce and effectively ended his time in the larger public eye.
Jim Bakker is a living example of the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. He has come forth from prison to a new life and compassion for lost and hurting people. Jim is now speaking at conferences and churches and working in inner-city Los Angeles assisting his son's ministry. He has spent much of his time since prison working in the inner-city ghettos, reaching out to drug addicts and the homeless, and teaching them in Bible classes.
