People's Mission

Wealth, youth, and an impressive portfolio...this man who approaches Jesus has everything and would make a great addition to the Jesus Movement. However, after speaking with Jesus he leaves sad and discouraged. Opening up Mark 10:26-27 Pastor Daniel reflects on the scene reminding us that while we often focus on external things, God looks at the heart of men and women. The kingdom of God demands our first allegiance and Pastor Daniel encourages us to remember that it's not on our strength and ability that we enter in, but only because of God's enabling, mercy and grace in our life.

Paying careful attention to our life and relationships is important, particularly when it comes to what we set our heart on and spend time thinking about.  When Jesus is asked a “test questions” by the Pharisees about divorce He takes the opportunity to share how God originally designed marriage, not as a disposable arrangement but a permanent union. Opening up Mark 10:1-12, Pastor Daniel considers the topic of marriage and divorce encouraging us to consider our own relationships, in all their success and failure, in light of God’s Word and original plan.

Considering how Jesus had just reminded His disciples about humility in discipleship, it might seem strange that pride resurfaces so quickly amongst the group. Opening up Mark 9:38-41, Pastor Daniel reflects on how this is often true for us, that we listen and learn but we often make the same mistakes, again and again, along the journey of discipleship. The Sea (Psalm 95:5)

In this Lord's Supper devotional, Pastor Daniel opens up Paul's first letter to the Church in Corinth and reflects on 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 where the Apostle reminds the early church of their reason for thankfulness and their ability to participate in the family of God. Daniel reminds us that the Christian fellowship we have as brothers and sister in the body of Christ is bound together in the love God poured out for us in the person of Jesus; His love heals our wounded spirit, breaks the power of sin and establishes within us both love for God and love for one another:

When Nehemiah realized the people had begun to neglect the promises made concerning the Temple and the Sabbath, he quickly confronts the issue and the offenders. In this concluding study, Pastor Daniel reminds us that there are many things in our world that compete for our attention and loyalties; we need to be more concerned about God and His plan for us than the demands of the world.

When the people were confronted with God's word, they listened and obeyed. They were sensitive to God's leading and were excited to learn and apply the whole counsel of God into their life, resulting in the people giving back to God generously and joyfully. Opening up Nehemiah 12:43, Pastor Daniel highlights that when our whole life is lived in obedience to God, those around us - our friends and family - will begin to notice the hallmarks of a transformed life, in particular, the joy of the Lord which is our strength.

Many people are aware that something needs to change, but they either procrastinate or never get around to doing anything about it. Opening up Nehemiah 10:30-39, Pastor Daniel draws our attention to the people's commitment to hold themselves accountable to God's Word while holding each other accountable on the journey of faith. Daniel reminds us that we need to actively workout our knowledge of God in our daily life, so that the next generation will be able to see our faith and be encouraged our example.

Only when we learn to view our history properly, in the light of God's word, will we then be able to move forward praising God in the newness of life He gives.

Opening up Nehemiah 9:16-37, Pastor Daniel explains that the goodness of God is seen in His provision and steadfast love for His people, even when they rebelled and refused to obey. Like the Israelites, we are prone to wandering away from God and rebelling against His word, but God is good and both loves and disciplines His children in their disobedience. Daniel encourages us to consider the history of God's people as reflecting the waywardness of our own lives. But on account of God's love and care for his children, He does not forsake us in our sin.
