If we take the general definition of the word lust, it simply means a desire. However, in the Bible, lust has a negative meaning, pertaining to fleshly desires, carnality, and desiring to do things that are forbidden.

Scriptures tell us that every man is tempted only according to his own ability. When a person yields to that temptation, and lusts after the activity, thing or person that is used for temptation, then he falls into sin. The Apostle Paul teaches that a follower of Christ should learn how to keep his body under subjection, or in short discipline.

In addition to discipline, a person who wants to win over lust must seek the empowering grace of the Holy Spirit. Only by these two factors will a person be able to defeat lusts of the eyes and flesh.
