Matthew 1:18-25 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 
 
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, 
 and they shall call his name Immanuel” 
 
(which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

Micah 5:1-6 Now muster your troops, O daughter of troops; 
 siege is laid against us; 
with a rod they strike the judge of Israel 
 on the cheek. 
2 But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, 
 who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, 
from you shall come forth for me 
 one who is to be ruler in Israel, 
whose coming forth is from of old, 
 from ancient days. 
3 Therefore he shall give them up until the time 
 when she who is in labor has given birth; 
then the rest of his brothers shall return 
 to the people of Israel. 
4 And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, 
 in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. 
And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great 
 to the ends of the earth. 
5 And he shall be their peace. 
 
When the Assyrian comes into our land 
 and treads in our palaces, 
then we will raise against him seven shepherds 
 and eight princes of men; 
6 they shall shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, 
 and the land of Nimrod at its entrances; 
and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian 
 when he comes into our land

Isaiah 9:1-7 But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. 
 
2 The people who walked in darkness 
 have seen a great light; 
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, 
 on them has light shone. 
3 You have multiplied the nation; 
 you have increased its joy; 
they rejoice before you 
 as with joy at the harvest, 
 as they are glad when they divide the spoil. 
4 For the yoke of his burden, 
 and the staff for his shoulder, 
 the rod of his oppressor, 
 you have broken as on the day of Midian. 
5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult 
 and every garment rolled in blood 
 will be burned as fuel for the fire. 
6 For to us a child is born, 
 to us a son is given; 
and the government shall be upon his shoulder, 
 and his name shall be called 
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, 
 Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace

on the throne of David and over his kingdom, 
 to establish it and to uphold it

Isaiah 7:10-17 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted. Isaiah 7:10-17 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted. The Lord will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah—the king of Assyria!”

Isaiah 43:1-7 But now thus says the LORD,

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; 
I have called you by name, you are mine. 
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; 
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; 
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,

3 For I am the LORD your God, 
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; 
 the horse and his rider[a] he has thrown into the sea. 
2 The Lord is my strength and my song, 
 and he has become my salvation; 
this is my God, and I will praise him,

3 The Lord is a man of war;

Romans 3:9-23 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10 as it is written: 
 
“None is righteous, no, not one; 
11 no one understands; 
 no one seeks for God. 
12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; 
 no one does good, 
 not even one.” 
13 “Their throat is an open grave; 
 they use their tongues to deceive.” 
“The venom of asps is under their lips.” 
14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” 
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 
16 in their paths are ruin and misery, 
17 and the way of peace they have not known.” 
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” 
19 Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. 
 
21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
