Psalm 36:2 - "For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful." 
 
Most of us have looked in the mirror and seen both the positive and the negative. We praise ourselves for the positive, we shame ourselves for the negative. Some people do only one, and others do neither. What you ought to consider if you are a Christian is identifying the negative and think of ways to change that behavior to be more Christ like… I know this is a tall order. But that is the path we attempt to follow. 
WHAT TO DO: If you are filled with anger; temper it.. if you are filled with envy; bless the ones you envy… If you are filled with self-doubt; put your faith and trust in the will of the Lord.

Psalm 22:28 - "For the kingdom is the LORD's: and he is the governor among the nations." 
When Jesus brought the good news about the Kingdom of Heaven, I often wonder about how crazy people must have thought him to be. There is a world outside our own that we can’t get to unless we go through him. Then going through his teachings and understand what he meant by that has really changed not only my life but the entire trajectory of the modern world. It makes you stop and contemplate the amazing accomplishments that one man can accomplish… It’s impossible, unless that person was God on Earth… 
WHAT TO DO: Corinthians 3:16 – “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”

Psalm 38:16

Have you ever felt so guilt ridden over a sin it caused you physical pain? This entire Psalm is David lamenting about such a sin. When a sin so great is committed you know there is no escaping the wrath of the lord. Your fear of how and when the Lord will rebuke you with his wrath. This is what David was so terrified of. 
WHAT TO DO: It is better to think before you act. Think before you sin. Be wary of knowing something is a sin and engaging in it anyways. Don’t think that you can just sin and repent afterwards. There is a big difference between living with Christ… and using Christ.

Psalm 38:16

Psalm 90:5 - "Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up." 
I was listening to a preacher this morning talk about the inner strength inside Christians. One aspect of this strength was the ability to turn the other cheek. He told a story about two best friends who had a terrible falling out. The Friend literally hit the other in the face. The instinct was to hit back twice as hard. Instead he said “If you need to hit me again to feel better, it’s ok.” The friend was stopped in his tracks and walked away still heated, but unwilling to fight a person who refused to fight back. After some time passed the friend that turned the cheek had moved past the ordeal easily minus a bruised eye. The friend contacted him and wanted to meet. Turns out the friend had been in absolute misery. He was guilt ridden and embarrassed by his actions and it had haunted him giving him many sleepless nights. He apologized profusely and begged for forgiveness. 
WHAT TO DO: It’s easy for us to read the words of Jesus, it’s a lot harder to put those words into practice. However; when we do- that is when we truly understand the power behind the Christian way of life.

When we read Psalm 63 and this verse in particular we should read it in context. The title is A Psalm of David When He Was in the Wilderness. It is most likely when David was being pursued by King Saul. The proceeding line into it reads “But those who seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lowest parts of the Earth. They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.” In the fullest context we see it as a Psalm where David fears for not just his life, but his soul. If someone kills you that is only your body which dies… This is something different from destroying your soul. You can have a living body with a destroyed soul. This is what I read: The worst kind of enemies we have; are those that actively seek to destroy our souls. 
 
 
WHAT TO DO: Think of what it is that you would consider soul destroying, it is going to be unique for everyone. For some people it may be a battle with alcohol and drugs, for others it may be their own self-doubt… Whatever your battle is with; ask the Lord for strength to overcome with your soul intact.

Psalm 63:10 - "They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes."


When we read Psalm 63 and this verse in particular we should read it in context.  The title is A Psalm of David When He Was in the Wilderness. Psalm 139:6 - "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. " 
 
 
Chances are that you or someone you know understands computer coding. We live in such a digital age it is hard not to know at least one person who is skilled with a computer language. When I look at coding I understand the logic behind the veil. When I look at a video game I can see how the physics and behaviors of the game character was coded. When I look at reality and the universe as a whole I see God’s coding. But I can’t understand how He did it. The scope of the work is too wonderful, too complex for me to ever know. It will forever be out of my ability to know it. But just like video games, most children don’t need to understand computer code to enjoy playing the game. 
 
 
WHAT TO DO: God made this world for a reason. He made you for a reason. I can’t tell you what that reason is, you have to figure that out for yourself. I know that if you follow your heart and try to live with the compassion and love taught to us through Christ you will be a far better player in this game of life than others who don’t.

Psalm 139:6 - What it means to us

Psalm 73:22 - "So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee. " 
 
 
Don’t beat yourself up over ignorance… It is not ignorance you ought to be ashamed about, but apathy. Ignorance is not knowing and having the necessary information. Apathy is knowing and having the information but not caring at all about it. The faithless that leave God after knowing Him are not ignorant, they are apathetic. There is a big difference. 
WHAT TO DO: Give the ignorant the chance to be enlightened, and don’t let yourself ever fall for the trick the tester makes on you with the feeling of Apathy.

Psalm 17:3 - “Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.” 
 
 
I think about the “tester” from time to time. When Jesus went to the wilderness for 40 days he was tested by Satan. Or when Job’s faith was tested by Satan as well. Should we be afraid of Satan? I don’t believe so. Satan is a test. What I mean by that is this: if you have an exam coming up and you know this exam is a difficult one; there are two options: Study, or don’t… If you study, there is no need to be afraid of the Exam because you are prepared for it. If you don’t study there is nothing that changed with the exam, what changed was your preparedness. 
 
Satan is a tester; an exam. When he comes, will you be prepared? You can be nervous, but nerves and fear are not the same thing. Knowing that you are prepared and ready to pass that exam gives you an incredible feeling inside. 
 
 
WHAT TO DO: I say to you: Prepare for the test of Satan, and there will be no need to fear him. You know the stories and the lessons of the Bible, don’t lose faith in your ability to be righteous through the strength of the Lord. The Father in heaven has blessed you with a soul, don’t let it be corrupted through transgressions.

Psalm 17:3  - “Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.”

There is an overabundance of deception that has invaded the spirit of mankind and infected its cancerous falsity in nearly every aspect of our lives. Food that contains no real nourishment is sold to children. Falsity is paraded as fact in our schools. Entertainment masquerades as News and the people are left uninformed and those that point out the emperor has no clothes are punished severely… Out of all this we remain in a state of hope. The labor pains of the Earth are underway. What will it give birth too? 
WHAT TO DO: Know that truth will come forth; and righteousness will come from heaven, for it is written by the prophets.

I just got done reading a news story about churches being burned in Canada. I am deeply saddened by this, I am angered by this, and all of the other appropriate emotions one would feel about such a heinous occurrence. We are all inside a moment in history that will be wrote about and studied long after we are gone. This acts are done by ignorant children who haven’t the slightest inkling as to what they are trying to manifest on Earth. As if setting the world on fire would create heaven. 
As for the people who lost their places of worship and all Christians of the world; we should remember what it is we signed up for. 
WHAT TO DO: Remember the Beatitudes 
Matthew 5: 3-11 – 
 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 
5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. 
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 
11 “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Psalm 106:5 - "Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation; That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance. " 
 
 
We all want to see God shine his favor on us as we’ve seen Him do for others. I’ve been guilty of pleading with God to do asinine tasks at times, and perhaps you have too. Praying to God that a sports team wins a game. Praying that you win the lottery. Asking God to help you pass an exam you didn’t study hard enough for. We sometimes do these things tongue and cheek… God please let me get a promotion at work. Let me become rich and happy… the list goes on and on. There is no shame in asking God and praying as much as you want. And I don’t want you to think I’m chastising anyone who prays for a football team to score a goal. What I would like us to remember is that Jesus didn’t suffer torture and crucifixion for you to become wealthy and happy on Earth. His payment was for you to have a ticket to get into the kingdom of heaven. The bill has been paid in full by Jesus. When you pray to God; do so earnestly and with wise intention. Everything is in the hands of God. Very few things are in our control. It’s easy to see how we can fool ourselves into believing that nothing is in our control, but this is not true. This may seem confusing at first but think of it like this; If you go to the ocean and lift a cup of seawater in the palm of your hand you can say that you are in control of that sea water – that it is literally in your hands. But, did you know that in just a drop of seawater contains over a thousand protozoans (single celled microscopic animal)? You may control the water but the protozoans do as they please within your hands. 
 
 
WHAT TO DO: We are in control of our actions on Earth. Jesus told us as much in his teachings. We all have a responsibility to manifest the will of the Father in heaven on Earth… Yet we sometimes get confused and believe it is the responsibility of God to manifest his will on us. I see nothing in my studies to make this true; but I see ample evidence to show that Jesus spoke the truth.

No matter how weak or outdone the righteous of the world may seem there is the truth that over the course of history the righteous will be victorious. Every good hero story has a common situation where all hope seems lost and the Hero is doomed to fail. When victory comes for the Hero, it is all the more sweet. 
WHAT TO DO: Don’t fret if you feel the Hero of your story is doomed to fail. God is good and the righteous will overcome the wicked.

Psalm 7:10  - "My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart."


No matter how weak or outdone the righteous of the world may seem there is the truth that over the course of history the righteous will be victorious. Every good hero story has a common situation where all hope seems lost and the Hero is doomed to fail. When victory comes for the Hero, it is all the more sweet.
WHAT TO DO: Don’t fret if you feel the Hero of your story is doomed to fail. God is good and the righteous will overcome the wicked.

When a storm is coming your way and it misses your house it can be seen as luck, or an act of God. When your children are born healthy it can be seen as luck or an act of God. When the world seems dangerous and you remain safe is it luck or God? Is luck, God by another name? 
WHAT TO DO: The difference between faith and faithlessness is often perception. All people have eyes to see, but only if they open them.

Psalm 9:7 – “But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.” 
Infinity is forever, God is forever, and God is infinity. Judgment is the throne and the throne is for judgement. What say you to God when the time comes to plead your case? What will you say to the almighty? 
WHAT TO DO: The guilty and the wicked fear the judge. The repentant and the faithful fear the judge. We fear the Lord as we fear our ultimate fate. The difference between the wicked and the repentant is the knowledge that salvation will only come through the repentance of sin, and the acceptance of Jesus Christ who died on the cross for those sins. Bless you Lord for what you did for us. Bless you Lord for showing us what man is capable of achieving through your guidance.

Psalm 119:109 - What it means to us

Progressive vs conservative Christianity. 
While reading Psalm 39 I came upon a verse that made me think about a question I was asked. 
Psalm 39:8 - "Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish." 
 
 
 
 
I was asked if I was conservative or progressive. Not politically, but theologically. Was I a progressive or conservative Christian? Which of these binary categories do I fall into, and what are my thoughts on the two? 
We live in an evolving world; a world that constantly changes. This is a law of God. Place water over a fire and it will change to steam. Watch the forests from spring through winter, and the forest will change color, die, and be reborn. Watch a baby child over 15 years and tell me that change is not a law of God. No my friend, there is no escaping change. 
There is inherent danger in change, and you should heed this warning. There are some things that must not change or we risk disastrous consequences. What would happen if you altered the foundation of a house after the house has been built? You would risk the collapse of the entire house. In this way; change is death and ruin. Change the precise measurements of medicine and it can becomes poison. Change is good, but too much change will make that which bends; break. 
There are things in Christianity which must remain the same, and there are things that have already changed, and will continue to change. The Bible was not always a book, it was a collection stories passed down through generations. Written on separated scrolls, the writings of the prophets were collected and organized into a single bounded book. The book was translated from ancient Hebrew to Coptic Greek and then into every language conceivable. These are all BIG changes. The church split into denominations, and those denominations split into further sub-denominations. These are all BIG changes. The teachings and emphasis on certain lessons over others vary from church to church, from pastor to pastor, from priest to priest, from minister to minister. Can there be objectivity given the current condition of the church? We live in a world where 2 and 2 make 4, and still you will see those that argue that it makes 5… What hope do we have for objectivity when such an argument like this can occur? 
If you’ve read this far you make up just over one third of readers. More than half of people who read articles will read less than 15 seconds of any given text before their attention span drops... Since you made it this far: I will say thank you. Now forgive me while I conclude by speaking in parable. The answer about my position to the question is hidden inside available only to those able to see. 
A little bird found a seed on the ground and ate it. The bird flew up and away soaring through the clouds. It landed in the middle of an open field. With its breast proudly raised; it sang a melody, calling out to any other birds in the area… But it was all alone. As the bird flew off to find companionship a drop of excrement was left behind. In the middle of the open field now laid a fertilized seed. After many years the seed had changed into a sprout, then into a sapling, then into a mature and strong tree. A man came upon the open field and saw the mighty tree in the middle of the vast openness. He climbed the tree; cut down a large branch and whittled it with a knife until he had made a pole. He attached a vine to it, and used the creation to go fishing with. That day he brought back to his village several fish; and the people of the village were fed, and all of them were happy. The tree was used to make many more fishing poles which provided abundant fish, and much happiness was gained within the village. 
Centuries had passed; the village was no more, and the open field had now become a parking lot for a business. The construction of the parking lot had left the tree standing tall, and it was now used to provide shade for cars. The people complained about the birds in the tree who proceeded to poop on their parked vehicles. After enough complaining; the tree was cut down and the wood from the tree was used to build a beautiful awning. It provided shade for the cars and made everyone happy, except the birds who clamored that the people had no right to destroy that which existed because of their ancestor who decided to land in an empty filled hundreds of years ago. 
WHAT TO DO: What is the tree to you? Was the tree only the tree in the time that it was called a “tree”, or is it more than that? Was it the seed? Was it the song bird soaring in the sky? Was it the sprout, the sapling, the fishing poles, the awning, or is it just bird poop? 
We all have to make a choice about how we see things. Most people do it based upon their given point in time, and their lived experience. We should try to see things from a God’s Eye View… That is easier said than done.

Psalm 81:2 – “Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.” 
 
There is something unexplainable about music in general, but when it is combined with poetry like that from the psalms we have something magical.
