This morning we took a look into the Book of Jude.  Written by the half brother of Jesus, Jude by the Holy Spirit instructs us to CONTEND for the faith given.  Jude's call is within the context of the church having been infiltrated by false teachers -mere decades after the church had been founded.  The same problem exists today as it regards people being in church who deny various aspects of the person and deity of Christ and who are not committed to the entirety of God's Word and its holy and righteous teachings.  As such, every church must "guard the gate" and make sure those who end up in leadership or any position know the Jesus of the Bible and are absolutely committed to Him and the Scriptures.

Hello friends.  The letter of 3 John covers a lot of ground-- The need for us to practice hospitality.  The importance of us walking in the Truth of Christ faithfully.  How to communicate effectively with others.  The duty we each share as it regards financially supporting missions (beginning with supporting your local church and those going abroad).  3 John also teaches us that saying "I love you" in the purest sense is something that we need to learn to do in this macho, "I'm not into feelings" world that we sometimes live in. Good day friends.  This morning we are going to take a look at 2 John together.  One of the focal points of 2 John is Truth and Love and how they are inseparable for us as the followers of Christ.  Jesus is the Way, the Truth, the Life.  God's Word is truth.  Our highest calling is to love the LORD and others- but as ones always directed by the Truth.  This sometimes will mean hard choices for us in life for sometimes people will slander us and say "If you loved me you would....." and we will have to say "I do love you but I must obey God's Word for such is love for God.  I cannot say Yes to what you are asking."

Hi friends.  Today we are taking a look into the book of 1 John.  It's a beautiful book filled with lots of counsel on how to live as a follower of Jesus.  It's also a book with a very unique structure that takes a bit of time to wrap ones mind around.  It features a literary technique called Amplification.  John has a number of topics that he address that he introduces and then circles back to over and over again weaving them throughout the whole letter.  The net result- a finely woven and intertwined book on Christian living that makes a subtle point:  As Christians our life, belief's, practices are completely intertwined and indivisible.  One cannot parse and separate, or compartmentalize parts of our faith and life.  We are a whole as is the book of 1 John and it's teachings on Jesus

Sometimes we wonder what God is doing in the world, in our personal life, in general.  A long time ago Habakkuk was wrestling with what God was doing in his day.  His complaints are quite pointed and the wild thing is this:  God answered His questions and in the end, Habakkuk came to accept what God was doing and his future plans.  I'm not sure how long this took - to go from questioning to acceptance and praise, but if you're struggling take heart and hold on- and check out Habakkuk's story.

Sermon Habakkuk 1 to 3 Sunday Feb 11, 2024

Good day friends.  Today we are taking a look into the Book of Nahum which features a word of judgment against Nineveh and the Assyrian Empire (which ruled over a number of nations for about 300 years).  The Assyrians were a cruel and barbaric nation whose war crimes are actually carved into stone records.  Nahum's message from the LORD that they would be judged and held accountable by God was welcome news and a reminder to us that God is good and He is Just and that no matter what happens here, a day of accounting is coming.  In the meantime we as the followers of the LORD Jesus Christ are to stay faithful and for all who don't know Him as Saviour and LORD, the call is to turn to Him in repentance and faith for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

We've been in the last days for a while now (2000 years) but it's because of God's patience who does not want anyone to perish but all to come to have eternal life in Jesus Christ.  Do you know Him? I am my brother's/sister's keeper!  Getting along is hard-and this is pretty clear as one reads the Book of Obadiah- but the Bible makes it clear to us as the followers of Jesus that we are to look out for our family- and not just those in our family, but those in our spheres of influence- our church, our school, our workplace. We all care about justice, but what is it?  What does the LORD say justice is and what we should be standing up and speaking for?  The LORD sent Amos to confront His people regarding their many acts of injustice- calling them to repent and live.  As our text teaches us- righteousness and justice go hand in hand. Good day friends.  This morning we are taking a look into the Book of Joel together.  The book sits in two parts.  In the first half Israel experiences a mini Day of the LORD when a giant locust swarm decimates the land.  The only solution offered:  Repent and get right with the LORD.  In part 2 of Joel THE DAY OF THE LORD is in focus and a road map is given- starting with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (fulfilled in Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost).  The remedy is the same- to escape the just judgement that we all deserve, we must repent of our sins and turn to the LORD in faith and in trust- believing upon the LORD Jesus Christ. Good day friends.  Do you know what Father Abraham and Rahab the prostitute had in common?  James tells us in the letter he wrote - so led and directed by the Holy Spirit.  In this mornings service we are going to consider this declaration by James; "Faith without works is dead".  Putting our faith in Jesus into practice is an essential; it's also a battle- for sometimes we don't want to serve or get involved etc etc--- YET we must.
