Burgin Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist Church located in central Kentucky. We are a faith family called to share the eternal hope found in Jesus Christ. How do we forgive someone who has deeply hurt us? How do we forgive the vilest of offenses? How do we forgive the unthinkable? We can learn a lot from Jesus. 
 
We can forgive the unimaginable because Jesus forgave us. When Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing,” who was included in “they?” The solders? Judas? Pilate? All the Jewish leaders? Do you know who else was included in that prayer? You and I. Scripture teaches that all have sinned (Romans 3:23). We are no different from those who have hurt us. 
 
Would you like to be like Jesus? Start by forgiving those who have hurt you so deeply. 
 
It is possible to forgive like Jesus did!

2-7-2021 “How to Forgive” (Luke 23:32-34) Sermon Series: Seven Sayings of Jesus

We all struggle with temptation every day of our lives. It seems like once we beat one temptation, another will come along. Many believe that temptation is a sin. How wrong! Temptation is not a sin. Temptation becomes sin when we act on that opportunity. Even Jesus was tempted, and Jesus understands temptation. 
 
The devil tempts when we've gone without and tempts with the idea of a shortcut. (Luke 4:3-4) 
The devil tempts with the idea of compromise. (Luke 4:5-7) 
The devil tempts with the idea of entitlement. (Luke 4:9-11) 
 
We all can learn from the way Jesus responded to temptation. The devil will attack when you are weak. Be prepared! Prepare your mind in advance before the temptation strikes. Spend time in the Word and in prayer every day. Jesus was prepared ahead of time, and He.conquered temptation. 
 
Decide now if you are going to build your life on Biblical principles. Decide now to not compromise. Decide this moment that satisfying God is more important than anything else. Declare Jesus to be first in your life. 
 
I'll leave you with some encouraging scripture.  1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us, "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

9-27-2020 Sunday School with Emma Bradshaw - "God Reigns" (Isaiah 23:8-18)

It's easy to look at our path ahead and say there is no earthly way we can accomplish a difficult task, and we focus on what we lack. Moses experienced a similar situation in Exodus chapter 4 when God called Moses to lead the people of Israel out of slavery. Moses was concerned if the people would listen to him. The Lord responded by asking Moses what was in his hand. In other words, what do you have. What Moses had in his hand was a staff or a rod. But is was more than a rod. That rod symbolized the power of God, and it was all that Moses needed. 
 
In Christ, we have the power of God. Whatever challenges we are facing, whatever seemingly insurmountable odds that are before us, remember that the key to victory is focusing on what we have, not on what we lack. Those that are in Christ have the power of God! Focus on what you have, which is the power of God in your life.

Keep the Fire Burning (Leviticus 6:12-13) - Burgin Baptist Church

Your attitude impacts every part of your life. It can make you or break you, make you friends or make you enemies, make you happy or miserable, a success or a failure. Luke 6:45 tells us, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” In other words, your attitude reflects the real you. 
 
Your attitude also reveals your choices. Do you focus on the positive or the negative? The good or the bad? A bad attitude is like a flat tire.You can change it! You can choose to blame your circumstances on your boss, the stock market, your job, etc. OR you can choose to see everything in a good light. The choice is yours. You can choose to look for the good in each day. You can choose to speak positive words (Ephesians 4:29). You can choose to take charge of your thoughts — garbage in/garbage out or good in/good out (Philippians 4:8). 
 
Is your attitude where it needs to be? If not, there is good news! You can ask for forgiveness today and pray for a Godly attitude. There are so many reasons to have a good attitude. The choice is yours. Which way will you focus? 
 
May we apply the truth of God’s word to our attitudes!
