The SMB Bible - "Standard Memorization Bible" was created as a result of a Saturday morning Bible study  (i.e. SMB) which began in January 2017 at my local church. The Bible study group (currently still active) is a careful exegetical verse by verse study through 1 Corinthians. 

The translation of the "SMB Bible"  is from the original Greek using the latest scholarly research of New Testament Greek.  The translation is both accurate to the original Greek text and readable in modern English. One may call it optimal for study and memorization. 

The English text was created to allow for memorization without compromising the meaning of the original Greek text. The translation tries to limit "extra" English words that sometimes clutter other translations and make memorization difficult.

In no way is the text compromised with the desire to solely make it easier to memorize. However, daily reading and study will foster the ability for one to come to know the text fully.

How textual variants were handled in the SMB translation: 
 
A recent trend by textual scholars has been to move away from “Text types” such as Alexandrian, Western or Byzantine text types. However, decisions still need to be made regarding which writings best represent the correct Greek Text. These decisions are complex, for example with the emergence of the Coherence-Based Genealogical Method (CBGM), and the Tyndale House Greek New testament (THGNT), scholars have come up with different methods and different results on what the correct text is. With new discoveries and greater understanding of scribal habits scholars have greater confidence in the accuracy of the initial Greek text. Despite all of these advancements, a debate continues as to which method and/or manuscripts to use. Proponents of the “traditional text” or the “Byzantine text” believe the Greek text has been preserved through the centuries and has been used by the “church” to faithfully demonstrate the correct writing of the New Testament. Yet even within this “Byzantine “camp, small textual differences exist. 
 
SMB does not dismiss the many advancements in textual criticism, nor does the SMB ignore the “traditional” text. The SMB instead tries to combine both sides of the textual debate to produce a text that is a true eclectic model incorporating the traditional and modern textual criticism standards to determine the Greek text. The SMB uses 4 major published Greek texts that represent the latest research available:
