It is so easy to lose focus on the gospel when we experience trials or when we are forced to recognize how sinful we really are. The gospel is our salvation and our power for living. Though we constantly fail and continually strive for holiness, our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. Unless we keep our eyes centered on the salvation and new life given by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, it is inevitable that we will lose heart and succumb to despair. So this Sunday, as we take a week off from 1 Peter, we will look at 2 Corinthians 1:15-22 (focusing on v. 19-20). In this passage Paul says that in Jesus, all the promises of God are "yes." 
 
When you find a promise from God and ask "is this promise really for me today?"- if you are in Christ, God’s answer is yes. Jesus has fulfilled and accomplished all that we need to be right with God and stand sure in our relationship with him. He is God’s once for all answer - all the promises find their "yes" in Him.

It is so easy to lose focus on the gospel when we experience trials or when we are forced to recognize how sinful we really are. The gospel is our salvation and our power for living. Though we constantly fail and continually strive for holiness, our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. Unless we keep our eyes centered on the salvation and new life given by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, it is inevitable that we will lose heart and succumb to despair. 1 Peter 1:13 Living Faithfully As Exiles

Psalm 78:18 For The Next Generation

John 19:16-30 shows us the fulfillment of all of Scripture and God’s purposes in the salvation of sinners. Sunday, we examine the crucifixion of Jesus. Up to this point, John has gone to great lengths to show us Jesus’ control of the situation. He has chosen to allow His arrest, His various trials, and now He freely gives His life on the cross as a substitute for sinners. 
 
At every point in this text, we are made aware that even the tiniest details have been foretold and are fulfilling the purposes of the Father. Even on the darkest day in human history, there is absolutely nothing out of God’s control. Each detail is a fulfillment of the Scriptures, meticulously accomplishing God’s plan of salvation for us. As we examine the perfect Lamb sacrificed for our salvation, we are also repeatedly shown that God’s Word is faithful and true in all things. His Word was true on the day when all hope seemed lost, and His Word is still true today in all that we face. Believer, His Word will be true after all the stars burn out and we have spent ten billion years in His presence. His word will be true throughout eternity. Therefore, if God is for us - today - who can be against us?

Jesus exemplifies the life perfectly submitted to the will of the Father. He is faithful despite the presuure of the world, or the risk to himself. He exemplifies what we are called to be, but more than that He is faithful for us as He takes our sin upon the criss and gives us His life of righteousness.

Paul ends chapter 8 by showing the believer that there is nothing that can separate him from the saving love of Jesus Christ. This love is embodied in the intercession of Christ at the Father's right hand. And nothing, not even the sufferings of this life, or anything in all creation can separate us from his love.

One of the most difficult texts in the NT. Paul shows the believer that there is a war between the flesh and the "inner man." This is the normal Christian life. There is a battle that rages until we see Jesus. The Believer desires to keep God's law perfectly, but the ability to do so is simply not within his power.
