When Paul's command about the monetary offering (1 Cor. 16:1-2) was not effective at Corinth, Paul adjusted his advice (counsel, opinion) to help the Corinthians complete their promise--to act according to the desire they had expressed. Giving is easiest when it reflects life! The first step toward generous giving is generous living!  Here are keys for living generously, sacrificially, and compassionately.

Sunday's Coming: Principles for Generous Living (2 Corinthians 8:1-15)

Replacing the Levitical priestly system with Jesus our High Priest necessitated a replacement covenant. Do not get these reversed! The New Covenant does not pave the way for Jesus to become our priestly sacrifice. Jesus' atoning high priestly sacrifice opened the way for the New Covenant. Forgiveness through Jesus extends both backward and forward. This brief study will open a new appreciation of a fundamental argument presented in the Book of Hebrews, reflected in various New Testament texts.

Misunderstood Passages: Change or Replace? (Hebrews 7:11-12)

As Paul concludes the book of Romans, he returns to the theme with which he began--his great desire to proclaim the gospel! Romans 15:15-32 is a description of Paul's "reasonable service" in the gospel--continually presenting before God a sacrifice pleasing and acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Paul also mentions his plans for future ministry, asking the Christians in the church at Rome to join him in prayer  In Romans 16, we read Paul's greetings to various people in the church at Rome, three warnings, greetings from those with Paul, and a concluding word of praise (doxology)!

Hearing God's Message: Paul's Ministry in the Gospel (Romans 15:14-16:27)

In 1 Corinthians 13:8-13, four times, using the same Greek verb, Paul speaks of things that will be put away because they have become useless.  Partial knowledge and partial prophecy will be put away when "the perfect" or "the complete" comes.  When one encounters "that which is partial" and "that which is complete" in the same sentence, to read parallel references to the same thing makes sense.  This video explores the meaning and message of the passage, focusing on repeated words and phrases.

Difficult Bible Passages, misunderstandings, misapplication!  Failure to study context, words, meaning, message. 2 Corinthians 10:1-5, strongholds, arguments, lofty ideas, arrogance, which thoughts and whose thoughts are being captured?

Difficult passages are difficult!  Theories, ideas, speculation!  Give me 15 minutes of your time! The careful study of difficult passages will include word studies to identify repeated words and phrases, study of the context including the message of the original author and the application for the original recipients.  When Peter writes about how to live in the midst of suffering -- focused "in the spirit" rather than "in the flesh" -- he uses the example of Christ who ultimately announced victory in his resurrection, even though he suffered and died in the flesh. Even baptism makes sense in the context!
