I have labeled today’s message “Do unto…” 
meditating on Jesus’ command 
to love our neighbor as ourself 
remembering the golden rule 
to do this in a manner we ourselves want to be loved.  
Today’s Scripture is found in the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans, 
chapter 12, verses 19 and 20.  
Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,  “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord.  Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.”

"Do Unto" Romans 12:19-20

Today’s Scripture is found in the Gospel of John, chapter 15, verses 14 and 15.  “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” 
 
 I have titled today’s message; “My Friend” As I began to consider and prayerfully seek what God had for us to hear, I couldn’t help focusing on our recent celebration of Valentine’s Day. The more I thought about what exactly it has represented to me over the years, I kept coming back to Love and Friendship. Particularly the way they relate to us as followers of Jesus.

Today’s Scripture is found in the Book of Job, chapter 32, verse 8.  
“But it is a spirit in man and the breath of the Almighty  that give him understanding.”  
These past two weeks the Spirit has been putting two things before me. One was prayer and the other understanding. Now, He has put those thoughts in my mind before, so as I prayed asking for His leading to better understand why I was once again being brought back to these particular topics. I began seeking out what the Scripture had to say about them, that led me to today’s Scripture from Job. This of course told me that any understanding God has for any of us will come from Him. In the Gospel of Luke, chapter 24, the apostle records Jesus appearing to the disciples after His resurrection where He assures them that everything He told them has come to pass and then in verse 45 we read; “He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.”  Truly the only way to understand God is to have His Holy Spirit as our guide.

A prayer for our nation, given on the 61st annual observation of our National Day of Prayer;  Lord, America needs Your guidance and direction. We humbly ask that Your spirit intercede with the leaders of our nation, giving them the wisdom to make decisions that will honour You. We pray fervently for peace, both here and abroad. Let us live a life of reverence for You with peace in our hearts for our fellow man. May we always remember You are the Almighty King of Kings and Lord of Lords. May we be steadfast in our humble obedience to You and boldly declare that we are one people united through Your powerful name, indeed, one nation under God. Amen.  “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Psalm 33:12  Today we celebrate the last week of this of Advent season, Christmas Eve and day have been celebrated with the candles of hope, peace, joy and love being lit.  "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." … Isaiah 9, verse 6

"Call waiting!" Mark 2:13-17

Consider it pure joy, this is what James tells us to do;  As we consider what that would mean for us, we might well need to ask, if joy is a passing emotion or a permanent state? Is joy something that comes and goes or can it be a constant?  The Bible, the Scripture, tells us it can be both.  There is joy that reacts to happenings, things that happen around us, (this kind of happiness is both temporary and volatile), then there is joy that overrules happenings, our day by day challenges, our struggles (this is a joy that is strong and lasting).  Joy based on happenings is part of life, those things we experience, but if that is all we can count on we will have to keep feeding ourselves with events to keep us upbeat, to keep us joyful.  Those of us who know the joy that comes from knowing God shouldn’t need events or happenings to keep us happy, keep us joyful.

Today I will take us back to the first book of the Cannon, Genesis, acknowledging full well that there are those who view the creation story as just that, a story. My personal conviction, which I am certain will be no surprise to anyone, is that just as all Scripture is God inspired the whole of Genesis is to be taken quite seriously and will teach us a great deal about who the one true God is and how He has and continues to work in and through His creation. Reminding us as we read in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 1, verse 37, “Nothing will be impossible with God”.
