Adat Shalom Dallas

Last week we resumed our teaching series titled, "Isaiah, The Evangelical Prophet." The section we are in deals with God's denunciations of the Gentile nations that surrounded Judah and Jerusalem, and at one point or another, had dealings with them. This week our focus will be on Jerusalem, as the Lord through His prophet, pronounces judgment on this grand and important city. At this time Jerusalem was facing destruction, as they were under siege from the mighty armies of Assyria. Isaiah was so distraught that he wept bitterly, and would not be comforted. The Lord, having "removed the defense of Judah," had brought about a dire condition in Jerusalem. There were breaches in the wall, and the water supply was low. Surrounded by Assyrian chariots and horsemen, you might think that the people of the city would be weeping and repenting before the Lord. However, that was not the case, as the people instead turned to gaiety and partying. They became both faithless and fatalistic, and said amongst themselves, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." As usual, there are valuable lessons to learn from this text, so come join us this Friday for erev Shabbat Services at Adat Shalom. "The Judgment Against Jerusalem" Isaiah 22:1-25 Adat Shalom 11.4.22

The fall holidays are over now and we are going to resume our teaching series in the book of Isaiah titled, "Isaiah, the Evangelical Prophet." Isaiah was a Hebrew prophet who ministered to Israel and Judah from 740-680 B.C. When we left off, Isaiah was denouncing the Gentle nations surrounding Judah and proclaiming God's judgments against them. This Friday we will focus on chapter 19, which deals with God's judgments upon Egypt. Like the other nations, Egypt had "issues" with idolatry and evil practices. Also, their so-called "wise men" became foolish and "stupid," and had led Egypt astray (19:14). Egypt would suffer greatly. However, even to my own amazement, this chapter reveals that Egypt would eventually be open to believing in the God of Israel--who in the last days would declare, "Blessed is Egypt My People,.." We are rapidly approaching the High Holidays, and will be taking a brief break from our series in Isaiah to focus on their significance. In the meantime, we will continue our studies in Isaiah. This week we will continue with the prophet's predictions concerning specific kingdoms surrounding Israel (Judah). One of those kingdoms will be Aram (Syria). However, the other kingdom Isaiah will denounce will be Israel--the Northern kingdom.. Remember, at this time Israel was divided into two kingdoms; the Northern kingdom consisting of 10 tribes of Israel, and the Southern kingdom consisting of the other 2 tribes, Judah and Benjamin. Israel, the Northern kingdom had made an alliance with Aram (Syria) in an attempt to resist the greater power in the region which was Assyria. Isaiah predicted that the unfortunate end result would be the devastation of Israel's Northern kingdom, and the exile of many to Assyria. There is much to learn in this week's Bible text, so come join us this Friday night for Shabbat services at Adat Shalom. "The Judgment Against Israel's Northern Kingdom" Isaiah 17:1-14 Adat Shalom 9.09.22

Last week we continued in Isaiah chapter 14 with God's judgment upon Babylon, with a specific focus on His judgment against the king of Babylon. It was a fascinating text that not only described the fall of the king of Babylon, but also seemed to prophetically portray the downfall of Satan from heaven (14:12-15). This week, we will continue with the theme of this section and take a brief look at God's judgment upon the nations of Assyria and Philistia. Within this text is a strong proclamation by God, even His "oath," that He will bring to pass what He has planned, and that nothing can "frustrate it."  As believers we can rest in hope, and trust that the plans that God has for the world, for Israel, and for us, cannot be thwarted, in spite of the events surrounding us today. "What God Has Planned - Cannot Be Thwarted" Isaiah 14:24-32 Adat Shalom 8.26.22

After a one week break, we will continue this Friday with our teaching series in the book of Isaiah. Our last message concluded section one in Isaiah which we titled, "God's Denunciation of Judah" (chapters 1 -12). This week we will begin a new section, where God through His prophet, now denounces other nations which historically have had dealings with Israel and Judah. We will begin this Friday with "The Judgment against Babylon" (13:1-22). The Babylonian empire had really not emerged as a world power at this time, and would not become one for many decades to come. However, being a prophet of God, Isaiah received a future vision that had allowed him see and predict events that had not yet happened--a miraculous ability that only God can do accurately. The city of Babylon is mentioned 287 times in the Bible, more than any other city except Jerusalem. Our text tonight regarding God's judgment against Babylon is a bit "mysterious". Isaiah's pronouncements speak of a judgment against Babylon that is in the near future. However, he also seems to predict judgments against an end-time "Babylon" that is in existence when the Lord returns. So come join us this Friday for erev Shabbat Services at Adat Shalom. "The Judgment Against Babylon" Isaiah 13:1-22 Adat Shalom 8.12.22

I want to thank all of you who came, brought food, brought guests, and celebrated with us Sunday evening for Independence Day. It was a wonderful time with great food, good fellowship, and a special time of praise and worship with our own John Hooper. This week we will continue our "sizzlin hot" teaching series in the book of Isaiah. Last Friday we studied about the impending judgment against Israel's Northern Kingdom (10 tribes) because of their ungodliness and evil in all levels of their society. We saw how Isaiah's warnings to Northern Israel could very well also apply to the sin and corruption we have today in our own society. This Friday we will look at the "rod" of God's judgment, which was the kingdom of Assyria. However, as often the case, the king of Assyria became proud and arrogant about his conquests. This brought a stinging rebuke from the sovereign God who was the true reason for Assyria's success, especially against Israel and Judah. So what would be God's response to the advancing Assyrian kingdom? Come join us this Friday evening for erev Shabbat Services at Adat Shalom, and find out. Last Friday we studied the amazing prophecy of the coming of the Messianic King (9:1-7). "For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us...and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor. Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." (9:6-7) What glorious names given to this child, who was born some 700 years later and given the name Jesus - Yeshua (salvation) (Luke 1:31). This week, as is characteristic of Isaiah, we go from a message of blessing and hope, to another series of judgments against Israel. At first glance, our text for this week (9:8-10:4) seems like another series of pronouncements and warnings concerning another spiritually dark time in Israel's history - which IT IS. However, as is usually the case with the timeless Word of God, if we look closer in the text, we find much that applies to our own day and time. It turns out that this week's text is quite appropriate as we look to celebrate the birth of our great nation this July 4th. The message last Friday focused on what has been called the "Song of the Vineyard," which recalled how God had provided for His "vineyard" (Israel), and how He had anticipated that it would produce "good fruit." Sadly, it produced only "wild or worthless fruit," for God had "looked for justice," but there was only bloodshed, and He had looked for "righteousness," but heard only a cry of distress among the people (5:7). This week Isaiah will elaborate further regarding Israel's "worthless fruit." He is going to declare six "woes" upon the people based on specific sins that they were committing. The result would be "swift" and strong judgments brought about by invading nations. It's not a pretty picture, but once again, there are lessons to be learned. So come join us this Friday for erev Shabbat Services, as we continue to explore the life and times of Isaiah the prophet. It was a great time as we celebrated "Yom Ha'atzmaut," Israel's Independence Day last Friday evening. May God continue to watch over Israel, and may her people come to know and believe in Yeshua their Messiah. This week we will resume our teaching series titled, "Isaiah, the Evangelical Prophet." In our last message we covered Isaiah chapter 4, which was a wonderful prophetic description of the millennial kingdom to come. We were also introduced to someone called the "Branch of the LORD," which is one of many titles given to the Messiah. This week we will begin chapter 5, with what is called the "song" or parable of the vineyard. Without giving too much away, this poetic "song" pictures God's strong disappointment with His vineyard, which He had "built" and established to produce good grapes, but lo, it only yielded "worthless" ones (5:2). Last week we started a new section in the book of Romans that had wonderful instruction to believers, concerning their Spiritual Life and Service before God and One Another. Rabbi Paul began by exhorting believers, because of God's great mercy, to fully commit themselves to serving God. They were to "present their bodies a living and holy sacrifice." This would be, considering God's mercy towards them, their "reasonable service of worship (12:1)." We also learned that believers have been given special "gifts," according to the grace of God, for the purpose of ministry among the body of believers (12:5-8). This week the rabbi will describe some of the characteristics of a good, functioning ministry. He goes into specific detail, and there is much to learn. Paul also exhorts the believers concerning how to respond to persecution and evil. Should believers seek retribution towards those who are persecuting them?
