Andy Woods' Unofficial Channel

Dr. Andy Woods takes us to Colossians 2:12, that is sometimes being used as a proof text for "salvation by water baptism". But when studied closely in context, this is not dealing with water baptism at all. The word baptism is not always referring to water baptism, as a parallel passage in 1 Cor. 12:13 explains rather well. It is talking about "spiritual baptism", which is inherent of our salvation by grace through faith. Being baptized in water is simply an outward projection of an inward change. 
 
Dr. Woods continues with a short allusion to another "proof text" that some christians tend to use, being 1 Peter 3:20-21. He concludes that the word 'save' here does not always mean the same thing in the NT every time it is used and points to the earlier sermon he has given on this subject. Concerning the Acts 2:38 passage, Andy is more thorough. About 200 passages in the Bible teach that no condition is needed for us, other than to just believe (trust) in Jesus. Only a hand full seem to say that something else is also needed in order to be saved. Andy gives a different rendering of the Greek word 'eis' that can be found here, and finds his mandate for doing that in the rather similar passage of Matthew 12:41. This flips causality around and would result in a passage that would be in harmony with the other 200 passages.

Dr. Andy Woods explains in this short seminar how Abraham was saved by faith and how we can reconcile that with James 2:14-26. When we are once saved, we are always saved. The doctrine of eternal security seems contradictory to some passages in the Bible, but only when approached superficially. A closer look will in most cases resolve the apparent contradiction. This is no exception. No need for calvinism, arminianism, catholicism or hyperdispensationalism. Just good exegesis. God bless! :-)
