In spite of the carnage that we see in this passage, there is one thing that remains reliable and sure - God's word to his people

In a silhouette, your attention is supposed to be drawn towards the thing that is absent. So it is with 1 Kings 14:21 - 15:24

King Solomon is clearly on a dangerous, sin-bent, trajectory. Yet, quite surprisingly in this passage, we see he is still going through certain religious motions like offering sacrifices etc. Where are you going through the religious motions? How do you need to reset your affections on the Lord?

The Temple was a glorious and magnificent building which took 7 years to build with the finest resources. However, God left Solomon in no doubt. Disobedience would lead to its ruin.

But praise God for those precious words in the Garden - the words upon which your eternity depends - 'not my will but yours be done.' 
 
1) As you read Luke's description of the intense pressure Jesus faced in Gethsemane, how does it help you appreciate the cross this morning? 
 
2) In spite of the excruciating spiritual and physical pain, Jesus willingly submitted to the Father's will! What does this tell you about the trinity? 
 
3) Jesus was praying, the disciples were sleeping. With regards to Salvation, Jesus did everything, man did nothing. How does this truth make you more thankful for Jesus' today?

Reflection Questions: 
1) Read through the passage again and note all the ways in which Jesus' kingly arrival is not what we would expect from a king 
 
2)"He would be exalted through his own humility. He would be victorious through his own defeat. He would bring life through his own death. He would bring hope through the greatest act of oppression." How does this cause you to praise Jesus today? 
 
3) How do Old Testament prophecies which later come to fulfillment give you confidence in (i) Jesus Christ as your one true hope of Salvation (ii) the Bible
