Exodus 35:1-36:7・Contributions to the LORD 
I. Intro: Money gives you security? 
a. 40 years of wilderness taught Israelites trust and security in the LORD. That’s why you can observe Sabbath, and focus on the essentials 
b. What is it mean to offer up contributions? 
II. Text: 
a. 1) Spiritual Investment 
b. v.4-9 Invest in your relationship with Me! 
i. Matthew 6:21 “ 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Where you spend the most…, there is your treasure! And there is your heart. 
1. (Example: movie “WAR ROOM” 
a. Matthew 6:6 “6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” 
2. Important Point: invest in the spiritual environment in which our relationship with God will thrive. 
a. Where can we spend money, so that our relationship with God will deepen? 
c. 2) Recruitment

i. Two types of offerings in the OT 
i. ①Mandatory Offering --- Tent of Meeting/ Temple tax --- 
1. Exodus 30:13-14 “ Each one who is numbered in the census shall give this: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel as an offering to the LORD. 14 Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the LORD's offering. ” 
ii. ② Voluntary Offering 
j. Two types of offerings in the NT -- 
i. 1 Timothy 5:17-18 “17 Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.” ” 
ii. 1 Timothy 6:18 (mostly addressed to rich folks) “18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, ” 
iii. 2 Corinthians 9:5-7 “ 5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance for the gift you have promised, so that it may be ready as a willing gift, not as an exaction. 6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 
iv. Frequently asked question: do I have to give my offering to my church? 
k. Q: is giving contributions a part of your Christian life? 
l. Q: Does that come from your love and passion for God? 
III. Conclusion:

2 Samuel 12:1-15a, Psalm 51:10-11・David’s Repentance 
I. Intro: 
 a. Homeless men decline to go to the public bath house 
 b. A boy hiding his cavity… 
 i. If you hide your impurities, how do you expect to get cleansed? 
 1. Proverbs 28:13 “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” 
II. Background to today’s text: 
 a. 2 Samuel 11 --- affair with Bathsheba, murder of her husband 
 b. Who is Uriah? (2 Sam. 23:39) 
 i. He is killed in the battle field 
III. Text: 
 a. 1) Rebuking friend (Nathan) 
 i. David hasn’t repented for about year (Romans 1:24) 
 ii. v.1 - God sends Nathan 
 iii. v.5 - He is blind to his sin, and others’ sin is obvious to him 
 iv. v.7 - “You are the man” 
 v. v.13 - David repents 
 1. Example: pastor Yong Gi Cho get rebuked 
 2. Application Question: Do you “Nathan” in your Christian life? 
 b. 2) God’s discipline 
 i. v.10-12 discipline continues (v.13 David is forgiven) 
 ii. v.14 discipline still continues, why? 
 1. Theologically  though forgiven, the ripple effect can remain 
 a. Hebrews 12:6 “For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”” 
 b. Sword does not leave David’s household. 
 2. David continues to mature through this 
IV. Conclusion: 
a. 3) Longing after God 
 i. Reflecting upon God’s grace, David mourns how much he hurt Him 
 1. Example: Can an adopted child hurt his foster parents? 
 ii. Psalm 51 
 1. v.9 – “Hide your face from my sins” 
 2. v.11 – “Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.” 
 a. Jesus prays, essentially, the same prayer on the cross. 
 b. Jesus was condemned, so that David and we can be healed and be restored. 
V. Application Points: 
 a. 1) Have a friend like Nathan 
 b. 2) Do not harden your heart when rebuked or when you are being disciplined.
