Bible Problem: 2 Samuel 24:10 vs 1 Kings 15:5. Did King David Only Sin Once? 
 
Problem 
 
2 Samuel 24:10 says: 
 
And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the Lord, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O Lord, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. 
 
But 1 Kings 15:5 says: 
 
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. 
 
David obviously sinned more than just with the matter of Uriah (in which he committed adultery with Uriah’s wife Bathsheba and had him killed in battle). 2 Samuel 24:10 says that David sinned in commanding the census. 
 
But 1 Kings 15:5 only mentions the Uriah incident, so is this verse wrong? 
 
Solution 
 
David sinned by having Uriah killed, by committing adultery, and by commanding the numbering of the Israelites (he was glorifying himself - the sin of pride), among other things. 
 
However 1 Kings 15:5 does not claim that David only sinned once. It says that “David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord,”  referring to an overall sense that David was a good guy by God’s standard of righteousness; which is faith. And then the text says that David “turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.”  This verse is about how King David disobeyed a direct commandment from God. The verse is not about how many times David had sinned.

So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me. 
 
1 Chronicles 21:11-12  
 
11 So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Choose thee 
 
12 Either three years' famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the Lord, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me. 
 
So did God, through the prophet Gad, ask King David to choose seven years of famine or three years of famine? 
 
Solution: 
 
Israel just had three years of famine in 2 Samuel 21:1, then at least a month of famine in 2 Samuel 21:9-10, and in 2 Samuel 24:8 Israel suffered nine months and twenty days of famine during the numbering of the people. So the Israelites had just gone through about four years of famine. 
 
If David chose to have three more years of famine then Israel would have had a total of about seven years of famine. 
 
The prophet Gad could have spoken to King David on two or more occasions until David made up his mind. Something like: “So David, do you choose to have seven years of total famine?” Then later, “David, have you chosen to have three more years of famine?”  
 
The text in the King James Bible aligns up perfectly.

Bible Problem: John 14:27 vs Matthew 10:34-36. Did Jesus Give Peace or a Sword? 
 
Problem: 
 
In John 14:27 Jesus says to His disciples:   
 
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 
 
And in Matthew 10:34-36 Jesus says: 
 
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 
 
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 
 
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 
 
Solution: 
 
In John 14:27 Jesus is talking to His disciples. So He is saying here that He gives peace to His followers. 
 
In Matthew 10:34-36 Jesus is talking about the world, the unsaved people. God sends the sword, or warfare, to an earth of disobedient sinners. 
 
In this chapter Jesus tells His disciples to go out into the world to preach the kingdom of heaven. So He was also warning them about what to expect from the world, and how even families become at odds with each other when they hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

If God is a just and Holy God, how can Job 12:6 be true? 
 
Solution: 
 
Job is speaking in the verse, not God. Job was going through an extremely difficult time of testing in his life. He was upset and sarcastically made this statement in Job 12:6. 
 
God does not bless robbers or secure those who provoke him.

Why did God tell people to multiply their transgressions? 
 
Solution: 
 
God was being sarcastic. Read the entire chapter of Amos 4 to catch the sarcasm. 
 
God is sarcastic in other parts of the Bible as well. In Matthew 23:24 Jesus sarcastically speaks to the scribes and Pharisees: 
 
Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. 
 
What Jesus means here is that the scribes and Pharisees would focus on the small, unimportant matters and laws of men, and not on the bigger, more important matters and laws of God.

2 Chronicles 8:10 says: 
 
And these were the chief of king Solomon's officers, even two hundred and fifty, that bare rule over the people. 
 
1 Kings 9:23 says: 
 
 These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work. 
 
So were there 250 or 550 officers? 
 
Solution: 
 
The 250 chief officers in 2 Chronicles 8:10 “bare rule over the people.” 
 
The 550 chief officers in 1 Kings 9:23 “bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.” 
 
The verses are talking about two different groups of chief officers. 250 chief officers were in charge of the people of Solomon’s kingdom, and there were another 550 chief officers who were in charge of the workers.

Bible Problem: Does Genesis 6:3 Say That God Limited Man’s Life to 120 Years? 
 
Problem: 
 
In Genesis 6:3 we read: 
 
And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 
 
If God said that people could live for up to 120 years why are there Biblical figures who lived much longer than that, even after this statement from God? 
 
Noah lived to be 950 years old! 
 
A French woman lived to be 122 years old and she died in 1997! 
 
Solution: 
 
God never said that people would live up to 120 years old. 
 
Genesis 6:3 does not refer to the life span of human beings. God was stating that His judgment would come in 120 years after His initial warning to Noah. The 120 years was a countdown to judgement. And it did come 120 years later as the Flood. 
 
1 Peter 3:20 confirms the waiting period until the Flood: 
 
“God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” 
 
Psalm 90:10 shows us that the average life span of a modern human being is about 70 to 80 years old. It reads: 
 
“The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”

Bible Problem: 1 Kings 4:26 vs 2 Chronicles 9:25. Did Solomon Have 40,000 Stalls for His Horses or 4,000? 
 
Problem: 
 
1 Kings 4:26 says: 
 
And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. 
 
But 2 Chronicles 9:25 says: 
 
And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 
 
Did King Solomon have forty thousand stalls or four thousand stalls? 
 
Solution: 
 
Solomon had four thousand stalls for his horses AND chariots. There were ten horses assigned to each chariot. 
 
There were forty thousand stalls for horses. Each of the four thousand chariot stalls had ten smaller stalls to house the chariot horses. 
 
Each chariot was assigned ten men and ten horses so when something happened to the men and horses in battle they could be exchanged for fresh men and horses; “the ones who were sitting on the bench.” 
 
So, for example, Let’s say we have a chariot with four horses and two men in battle. When a man or horse gets too tired, injured or killed, they are swapped out for any of the other six horses and eight men waiting on the side lines. 
 
This strategy would keep the chariots continuously in battle.

Bible Problem: Do 2 Samuel 10:18 and 1 Chronicles 19:18 contradict? 
 
Problem: 
 
2 Samuel 10:18 says: 
 
"And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there." 
 
1 Chronicles 19:18 says: 
 
"But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host." 
 
The first verse says that David slew seven hundred Syrian chariots, while the second verse says that David slew seven thousand Syrian men. 
 
Do these numbers contradict? 
 
Solution: 
 
The two verses do not contradict.   
 
2 Samuel 10:18 describes the deaths of an unspecified number of men who rode in "seven hundred chariots".   
 
1 Chronicles 19:18 describes the deaths of "seven thousand men" who rode in an unspecified number of chariots.   
 
In other words, 2 Samuel 10:18 gives the number of chariots (700) and 1 Chronicles 19:18 gives the number of men (7,000).   
 
Therefore, by putting the two verses together we know that there was an average of 10 men assigned to each chariot. 
 
700 chariots times 10 men per chariot equals 7,000 men.

Bible Problem: Matthew 23:9. Who Should We Call Father? 
 
Problem: 
 
In Matthew 23:9 Jesus says: 
 
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 
 
Does this mean that we shouldn’t call religious leaders “father?” 
 
What about our biological or legal fathers, or out of respect for someone? 
 
Solution: 
 
There are several instances in the Bible where the word “father” is used to denote a biological father, a legal father, or out of respect or affection. But calling someone “father” is never used in a religious context except when referring to God Himself. 
 
We see this separation of father from religion in Judges 17:10: 
 
And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year, and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals. So the Levite went in. 
 
In the New Testament father with a lower case “f” denotes an earthly disposition. When “Father” is used with a capital F, it always refers to God. 
 
Father used for Joseph, Jesus’ adoptive father, is spelled with a lower case “f” in John 6:42 
 
And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? 
 
In Philemon 1:3 Father is spelled with a capital “F”: 
 
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 
 
In Matthew chapter 23 Jesus was talking about the religious leaders; scribes, Pharisees and Rabbis. Verses 8 through 10: 
 
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. 
 
When referring to Christ the “M” in Master is capitalized. The first “father” is spelled with a lower case “f”, the second “Father” is spelled with a capital “F” and obviously means God the Father. Jesus Christ is comparing earthly fathers and religious leaders to Himself and to God the Father. 
 
Clearly Jesus is stating that in a religious context we should not call anyone Father, other than God. Religions that instruct its followers to call any of its leaders Father, whether it be a deacon, a priest or the pope, is in direct violation of Jesus’ command.

Problem: 
 
There seems to be a discrepancy between 1 Samuel 31:4-5 vs 2 Samuel 1:8-10 about Saul’s armor bearer. 
 
1 Samuel 31 verses 4 and 5: 
 
4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. 
5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him. 
 
In 2 Samuel chapter 1 verses 6 to 10 an Amalekite tells David about Saul’s death: 
 
6 And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him. 
7 And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I. 
8 And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite. 
9 He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me. 
10 So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord. 
 
Did Saul and his armor bearer commit suicide, or did Saul’s armor bearer kill Saul and not himself? 
 
Which of these verses are correct? 
 
Solution: 
 
Saul committed suicide and immediately afterward his armor bearer did too. The Amalekite was not Saul’s armor bearer. He lied about Saul’s death in hopes of gaining a reward.

Bible Problem: Numbers 25:9 vs 1 Corinthians 10:8. Did 24,000 or 23,000 Israelites Die In the Plague? 
 
Problem: 
 
In Numbers chapter 25 it says that the people of Israel joined Baalpeor and worshiped false gods. So they were punished with a plague. 
 
Numbers 25:9: 
 
And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand. 
 
But in 1 Corinthians chapter 10 verse 8 (talking about the Israelites in the wilderness) it says: 
 
Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 
 
So how many Israelites died in the plague? 24,000 or 23,000? 
 
Solution: 
 
1 Corinthians 1:8 says that 23,000 Israelites died in one day. So obviously the other 1,000 people died later.

Bible Problem: Luke 14:26. How Could Jesus Say That a Man Cannot Be His Disciple If He Doesn’t Hate His Family? 
 
Problem: 
 
In Luke 14:26 Jesus says: 
 
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 
 
But the Fifth Commandment in Exodus 20:12 says: 
 
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. 
 
And Jesus Himself says to love people. In Mark 12:31 Jesus says: 
 
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 
 
Do we have to hate our families to be Jesus’ disciples? Isn’t hating people a violation of God’s commandments? 
 
Solution: 
 
The following verses use the words “hate” and “love.” 
 
Matthew 6:24 
 
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 
 
Genesis 29:30-31 
 
30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years. 
31 And when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. 
 
When the words love and hate are used together they are comparative. In these instances the word “hate” is not to be taken literally. 
 
To be a disciple of Jesus Christ you must love him so much that your other important duties, like taking care of your family, come second place. Your focus must primarily be on Christ.

Bible Problem: Exodus 24:9-11 and 33:20. How Could Moses See God and Not Die? 
 
Problem: 
 
Exodus chapter 24 verses 9 through 11 says: 
 
9 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: 
10 And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. 
11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink. 
 
But later, in Exodus 33:20 God says to Moses: 
 
Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 
 
How then could 74 people see God and not die? 
 
Solution: 
 
The people only saw a likeness of God, or a physical representation of God. They did not see God the Father’s essence. This is apparent from passages like Numbers 12:8 when God says about Moses: 
 
With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold: 
 
The key words in the passage are “apparently” and “similitude.” Apparently means “as far as one knows or can see.” Similitude means “the quality or state of being similar to something.” 
 
Also, God is three Persons in One, but separate. This is shown in Matthew 3, verses 16 and 17: 
 
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 
 
Here we have Jesus as God the Son, the Spirit of God is God the Holy Ghost, and the Voice speaking is God the Father. Galatians chapter 4 verses 4 through 6 also shows the three persons of God. 
 
In the Old Testament the “Angel of the Lord” was seen by Abraham, Hagar, Balaam, Joshua and others in Genesis 16:7, Genesis 22:11, Numbers 22:22, Judges 2:4 and Judges chapter 13 and in many other verses. 
 
There are also verses where God is depicted as a man, like in Daniel 7:9 and Ezekiel 1:26-28. 
 
God can show himself as three distinct persons. In many instances where the Holy Bible refers to the “Angel of the Lord,” or as God appearing as a man, God is revealing Himself in a theophany as the preincarnate Jesus Christ.

Bible Problem: Genesis 6:14-22. How Could All Those Animals Fit In Noah’s Ark? 
 
Problem: 
 
There are about half a billion to more than one billion species of animals. How could two of every kind of unclean animal, and seven of every kind of clean animal, as stated in Genesis chapter 6 versus 14 through 22, and Genesis 7:2, fit on a boat that was only about 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high? 
 
Solution: 
 
The Bible refers to “kinds” of animal, not “species.” A dog is a “kind” of animal. A shepherd is a “species” of dog. The Ark probably only had several hundred to several thousand “kinds” of animals aboard. Of course, many of these animals would be young, or babies, instead of full grown animals, to save space, food, and to give the animals more time to procreate after the flood. Sea animals obviously stayed in the sea. 
 
The Ark had three levels, or decks, and was big enough to contain 522 standard US railroad stock cars! 
 
According to John Woodmorappe in his book “Noah’s Ark: A Feasibility Study,” the ark could have had 16,000 animals aboard, and on page sixteen of his book it says, QUOTE “less than half of the cumulative area of the Ark’s three decks need to have been occupied by the animals and their enclosures.” UNQUOTE. 
 
There would still be plenty of room left for storage and eight people!

Bible Problem: Genesis 2:17. Why Didn’t Adam Die After Eating the Forbidden Fruit? 
 
Problem: 
 
In Genesis chapter 2 verse 17 God says to Adam: 
 
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. 
 
But in Genesis 3:6 Adam did eat the forbidden fruit and in Genesis chapter 5 verse 5 it says that Adam lived to be 930 years old! 
 
Solution: 
 
The word for “day” in the English is translated from the Hebrew word “Yom.” Yom relates to the concept of time and has several literal interpretations. Some of them are: a period of a general term for time, twenty-four hours, a year, a time period of unspecified length, and a long, but finite span of time – age – epoch – season. 
 
Adam was created to be immortal, but when he sinned he had to die. Romans 6:23 says that the “wages of sin is death.” As soon as Adam sinned he began to die physically, and he did die after a time. 
 
2 Peter 3:8 uses Yom this way:  “that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” 
 
Also, Adam immediately died spiritually. See Ephesians chapter 2 for more about spiritual death. 
 
God told Adam that if he sinned, he would die. God kept his word.
