When the Holy Spirit works among God’s people, He doesn’t want the attention focused on Himself. He wants Jesus to get all the glory that people will be drawn to Him and find life. Because of this, we can be confident of the Spirit’s help when we seek to glorify Jesus with our lives. John 16:14-15 - Ministries of the Holy Spirit - Pt.6 - The Holy Spirit Glorifies Jesus

In this Bible Study with Pastor Andy Falleur from Romans 16:25-27 where Paul gives the closing benediction: 
 
“Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation about Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept silent for long ages but now revealed and made known through the prophetic Scriptures, according to the command of the eternal God to advance the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles — to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ — to him be the glory forever! Amen.”

It’s a fitting close to the letter as Paul begins the letter with the desire to “impart a spiritual gift to strengthen you...” 
 
It’s also fitting for them in Rome as Caesar Nero was on the throne and in a few short years would begin a brutal persecution of Christians. They need strengthening. 
We need strengthening as well. The new Christian needs strengthening. The more experienced Christian may need strengthening as we may have hard times in the future. The Lord may want to strengthen where we have become hardened. 
 
And here in the midst of blessing the Lord, he reminds us of all the ways that He strengthens the believer in Jesus. 
It’s according to the gospel, 
And the proclamation about Jesus 
It’s according to Old Testament prophecy that is still strengthening us because history and prophecy is continuing to unfold. 
It’s according to the command from God that has power to accomplish it. 
He is the only wise God.

This is six verses in our English translation but actually one long sentence in Greek. It’s a significant statement about God and us, but becomes more profound when we remember the context of the letter and how it impacts the problem in humanity that Paul has laid out back in Romans Chapter 1.

"Righteousness" | Romans 3:21-26

Our Bible study was in the first five verses of Acts 16 where we are introduced to Timothy and how he joined Paul and Silas on their mission. We looked at the details provided from several angles, first as the church, then as Silas, then Eunice and Lois, Timothy and finally Paul. I think it was fruitful and insightful and challenging for several of us there.

Timothy (Acts 16:1-5)

Psalm 13:6 - I Will Sing 
 
"I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me." It's a great lyric for us, as we are diving into the Psalms for the fall. We talked about singing, about songs, about prayers, the Psalms, and tried to address all the reasons that someone wouldn't sing to the Lord.

Job cries out! "Where then is my hope? Who will see my hope? Will it go down to the bars of Sheol? Shall we descend together into the dust?” We started with a quick review of the preceding 6 chapters highlighting the jabs Job and his friends exchanged with each other. But, the thrust of our attention is on Job's suffering and his search for hope, for comfort, to be assuaged.

This is a dramatic scene in Esther. There's no doubt that Esther is a story of hope. But, it's also a story without the mention of God. Yet, there are these providential circumstances. Providence isn't all of the story, because providence only sets up the possibility for action. Esther takes action. She's unsubmissive, in a submissive way, for selfless reasons, consistently.

Nehemiah 2:17 - Come, Let Us Build...

The phrase that's used to describe the success that Ezra had in his journey from Babylon back to Jerusalem is "The Good Hand of His God was on him." We looked at the evidences of the good hand of God, and then looked at how we could know that the good hand of God was on our lives.

There's no way, we could make that the theme of the Bible Study. But, if we will take a closer look at the story, we'll see something wonderful about God.

1 Chronicles 19:13 - Be Strong 
 
In our text, Joab encourages his brother Abishai and all of the Israelite army as they are surrounded by two other armies. It's a fight that they didn't want, or ask for, or provoke, but it's a fight that they are in. In this study, we will see the parallel to our fight in the New Testament, and see how this encouragement to "Be Strong!" applies to us.

Here in chapter 12, there's a list of all the people that came to David from all over Israel in order to crown him as the king of the entire nation, handing him over what was left of Saul's kingdom. In the list, we find this small bit of information about the tribe of Issachar, they were men who understood the times, what Israel ought to do.
