A study of 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 based on "Explore the Bible: Spring 2022" from Lifeway. Week seven of an eight-week lesson in the book of 1 Thessalonians prepared by Gary Stieber for Houston's First Baptist Church.

The subject of the last part of chapter four was the rapture and how that affects both “those who are asleep” speaking of the believers who had died, and “we who are alive.” “Now” (5:1) Paul turns to instructions for the believers regarding the day of the Lord. There is a change in subject. There is also a change in tone from the hope expressed in 4:13-18, to judgment in this section. As stated before, the Bible teaches that the coming of Jesus will be the most glorious day ever for believers and a very bad period of time for non-believers. This is the other side of the coin, so to speak.

In chapter five we will see that Jesus will return as He promised
