Song # 2089 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Lamentations is a collection of five poems lamenting the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC, and its aftermath of ruin and exile. The song “Fall Of Jerusalem” comes from Lamentations chapter 1.
Her fall was astounding; there was none to comfort her. Look, oh Lord, on my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed (Lamentations 1:9). The enemy laid hands on all her treasures; she saw pagan nations enter her sanctuary - those you had forbidden to enter your assembly (Lamentations 1:10). All her people groan as they search for bread; they barter their treasures for food to keep themselves alive. Look, oh Lord, and consider, for I am despised (Lamentations 1:11). Is it nothing to you, all who pass by? Look around and see. Is any suffering like my suffering that was inflicted upon me, that the Lord brought on me in the day of His fierce anger? (Lamentations 1:12). From on high He sent fire, sent it down into my bones (Lamentations 1:13). My sins have been bound by His hands they were woven together (Lamentations 1:14). The Lord has rejected all in my midst (Lamentations 1:15). This is why I weep and my eyes overflow with tears (Lamentations 1:16).
Thought for today: trust in God today and prepare for your tomorrow.
Thought for the future: when God forgives He restores the soul. Where will you spend your eternity?
