Song # 2221 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Lamentations is a collection of five poems lamenting the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC, and its aftermath of ruin and exile. The song “Without Pity” comes from Lamentations chapter 2.
The Lord has done what He planned; He has fulfilled His word, which He decreed long ago. He has overthrown you without pity, He has let the enemy gloat over you He has exalted the strength of your foes (Lamentations 2:17). The hearts of the people cry out to the Lord. Oh Zion, let your tears flow like a river day and night; give yourself no relief, your eyes no rest (Lamentations 2:18). Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street (Lamentations 2:19). Look, oh Lord, and consider: Whom have you ever treated like this? (Lamentations 2:20). Young and old lie together in the dust of the streets; my young men and maidens have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of your anger; you have slaughtered them without pity (Lamentations 2:21).
Thought for today: eyes of faith see God’s work.
Thought for the future: face your sins, repent and put them behind you. Where will you spend your eternity?
