LESSON 2 * PART 4 * BOOK 34
GALATIANS 4:15 - 5:11 - PART 2
Remember what we've just been saying, and that is you cannot attach anything to Paul's Gospel for salvation - if you do then Christ shall profit you nothing. Now verse 6.
Galatians 5:6
"For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love."
The love of Christ as He poured out Himself on the Cross for us. Lets turn to Philippians Chapter 2 and look at a verse, and remember what we're talking about - The love of Christ that sent Him to the Cross.
Love! His love for mankind, His love for the Father drove Him to be obedient to the work of the Cross. And death on the Cross was the most horrible death a person could possibly experience. Now another verse we need to look at is found in II Corinthians Chapter 5 and verse 14.
Because of the love that constrains. Romans 13:8
Can you bear false witness, or can you gossip about someone you love? When love is operating, the Ten Commandments automatically fall away. Romans 13:9-10
(if your Christian love is operating you won't commit adultery.) Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness. Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."
Now let's come back to Galatians Chapter 5 once again. Galatians 5:7
In other words Paul says, "What's happening to you people?" Galatians 5:7
"Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth."
Paul knew who it was, it was the Judaisers. Now verse 8.
Galatians 5:8
"This persuasion (to come away from Paul's Gospel of Grace) cometh not of him that calleth you."
The Holy Sprit of God. Well if the Holy Spirit did not lead them away then what spirit did? The evil spirit. Remember we've only got two spirits in the world. It's either of the Holy Spirit or of the satanic evil spirit. Let's go back to John's little epistles. I John 4:1
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." I John 4:3
"And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of anti-christ, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."
The two spirits. It's either of the Holy Spirit or of the evil spirit. Satan will promote the most beautiful things, Satan will promote that which we think is culture and enlightening as long as he can keep people from the truth. He doesn't care what he uses as long as people fall for it. Satan will use good things but it will be of the evil spirit rather than the Holy Spirit that is speaking. Now come back again to Galatians Chapter 5, and look at verse 8 again.
Galatians 5:8a
Galatians 5:9
"A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump."
Yeast. Now it's the same way with false teaching. If you let a little bit of false teaching in as leaven it isn't long before it permeates the whole, one leads to another. It's been leavened. Christianity today is leavened. Now verse 10.
Galatians 5:10
See Paul didn't give up on these people. Galatians 5:10
In other words Paul is saying, "Whoever it is that is bringing in this false teaching, and is leading you away from the Gospel of Grace, his judgment is sure." I never take teaching the Word of God lightly. Well if the Lord wasn't blessing it then that could never happen. I suppose a lot of people think I should have never left the ranch, but this is why I sound bold at times. Galatians 1:10
"For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ." So here in verse 10 Paul says -
Galatians 5:10b
Paul says, "This person will one day stand in judgment."
Galatians 5:11a
"And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution?..."
A verse comes to mind in the Book of Acts Chapter 15. taught the brethren, (those believing Gentiles at Antioch) and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved."
As the counsel takes place in Jerusalem with the Twelve and Paul and Barnabas.
Acts 15:5
Now back to Galatians chapter 5 and we'll finish up on verse 11.
Galatians 5:11
(Paul says, `If I preached what the Judaisers in Jerusalem preached then I'd have clear sailing. I will not give in to circumcising these Gentile believers. If I preached circumcision) then is the offence or the cross ceased." Now God wouldn't have been satisfied but the world would have. And the Church would have just died a natural death and Satan would have gloated all the way into eternity, but Paul didn't. Paul never backed off and gave in to these Judaisers.
