Bible 101 Class - 1 Kings 14:21-31. This is a brief overview and not a complete lesson/class.

Mothers (the mother role) have the major influence on a child's life. They are the first educators of a child and they have the most social interactions with a child. Even the single parent role of mother, the role of educator and social behavior teacher will influence how a child matures. Solomon had married an Ammonite and his son Rehoboam came to the throne. The issue was not that he married an Ammonite. The issue was Rehoboam's mother worshiped idol gods and in that religion homosexuality and sodomy was practiced. Both (homosexuality and sodomy) are not physically correct, and are not naturally correct. The physical parts do not work and the practice does not yield to any natural acts in the cycle of life or creation. Because Rehoboam accepting the religion of homosexuality and sodomy, God was envious to punishment where again an African Kingdom was used to show how our relationship can degenerate from Gold to Brass. That's when what is left in our spiritual life is only used as ceremony and is not a true spiritual relationship with God. We ceremoniously go to church but then put everything back in the closet of our minds and hearts until the next time. This is the symbolism of the Gold Shields taken by the Egyptian Pharaoh and replaced by the brass shields taken out for ceremony only and put back under guard.
