Unit 2 – Hopeful Faith
• And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. ~ Cor. 13:13
• Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ~ Hebrews 11:1
• And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. ~ Romans 5:5
1) Why is Rescue Required? (Ezek. 34:2b-6)
a. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. ~ Isaiah 53:6
b. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: … ~ Psalm 23:1-2
i. Through Jesus we can be free from fear, conflict, annoyances, and hunger.
2) What Does Rescue Involve? (Ezek. 34:11-16)
a. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. ~ Luke 19:10
b. [1] The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
[2] Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
[3] Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. ~ I Peter 5:1-3
3) Who Provides Rescue? (Ezek. 34:22-24)
a. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; ~ I Timothy 1:1
b. The greatest need that we have is freedom from sin.
i. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) ~ Ephesians 2:4-5
c. Freedom from the penalty of sin, and the controlling power of sin.
i. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. ~ Romans 6:11
