God is clearly saying to Moses, “It does not matter who you are. What matters is who I am. So stop looking at yourself and look at me!” And then God continues, “I will give you a sign. You will know that I am with you because you will certainly return to this mountain with Israel and you will worship me. That is how you know that I am with you.” Moses has to step out in faith first and trust God’s word before he will see the sign that God’s presence is with him.
