Oh, That You Would Come Down April-9- 2017

Isaiah 64:1-9

I. Come Down (1-4)

 Rend – tear, as you would with fabric

 I wish you would just tear a whole in Heaven and

come down here

A. We always want more from God

1. even Isaiah, while he’s a writer of Scripture

2. if You would do more, people would believe

3. if You would do more, I would believe

B. Rich man

Luke 16:29-31 "But Abraham *said, 'They have Moses and

the Prophets; let them hear them.' But he said, 'No, father

Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they

will repent!' But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses

and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if

someone rises from the dead.'"

C. God gets blamed for man’s unbelief

1. it’s natural (even Isaiah)

2. it’s wrong

II. God Meets Man (5)

A. He takes the initiative to meet man

Hosea 6:3 "So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD.

His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to

us like the rain, Like the spring rain watering the earth."

- which one of you mad the sun come up this morning?

- Everyday he is reaching out to man

B. He responds to our heart

2 Chronicles 16:9a "For the eyes of the LORD move to and

fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those

whose heart is completely His."

Romans 1:21 For even though they knew God, they did not

honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in

their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

C. He will meet the one who love, desires righteousness

III. Who We Are (6-7)

A. My sin is my fault

 People who love righteousness take responsibility

 People who don’t, blame

IV. Who He Is (8-9)

A. He is our Father

1. He gave us life

a. blame: “I didn’t ask to be born”

 you can, but it’s very foolish

b. gratitude: honor

B. He is the potter

1. blame: “You made me this way”

 you can, but it’s very foolish

Isaiah 29:15-16 Woe to those who deeply hide their plans

from the LORD, And whose deeds are done in a dark place,

And they say, "Who sees us?" or "Who knows us?" You turn

things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with

the clay, That what is made would say to its maker, "He did

not make me"; Or what is formed say to him who formed it,

"He has no understanding"?

Isaiah 45:9 "Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker—

An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the

clay say to the potter, 'What are you doing?' Or the thing you

are making say, 'He has no hands'?

C. He is merciful

1. He doesn’t remember iniquity forever

2. Rich man: He did raise someone from the dead

3. Brings us to today

a. He did rend Heaven and come down

 He tore a whole in Heaven and shepherds saw

angels, “Glory to God”

 He tore a whole in Heaven on the mountain so

that Peter, James and John could see Him

talking with Moses and Ellijah – He was

Heaven’s fulfillment of the Law and the

Prophets

 He tore a whole in Heaven to leave His throne

b. The King came through the gate, riding on a

Donkey

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in

triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is

coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation,

Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal

of a donkey.

c. They rejoiced, then they crucified Him

 He tore the very fabric of Heaven when

He cried out, My God, My God

 He tore an opening in the veil that had

separated man from God

Matthew 27:51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn

in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the

rocks were split.

 Finally He tore open the grave, the tomb

and conquered death

d. He did it all, but it wasn’t enough

 It’s not enough for me to believe, to

surrender to You

 It’s not enough for me to obey you

D. It’s about your heart

My heart – It’s enough

Lord, You have done enough

For me to believe

For me to obey

For me to follow
