Matt, Gus, Mike and Peter continue their discussion of Romans 11. Romans 11: 28 says in the KJV: "As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sake." The word election is also mentioned in 11:7 of the same chapter: "What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks for; but the election has obtained it, and the rest were blinded." The discussion here centers on who is the election. Some argue that election refers to the Jews and some argue it refers to the Church. If the word refers to the Jews then they are simultaneously beloved and enemies of the Gospel. It is argued here that this violates the law of non-contradiction. St. Paul says in I Corinthians 16:22: " If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema. (cursed). How can the Jews be both beloved and cursed at the same time? John Calvin, Karl Barth, many other theologians and almost all Christian Zionists believe the Jews are both enemies of God and beloved of God at the same time. This strange Christian doctrine that comes primarily out of this verse seems to be the main pillar upholding America's foreign policy in the Middle East which radically favors and supports Israel despite its extreme mistreatment of the Palestinians.
