John ask a very penetrating question for those who have been blessed with material goods. We all like to think the responsibility for meeting needs belongs to others. We each must recognize our personal responsibility to care for others. Instead of always looking to constantly advance our standard of living we should be looking for every opportunity to advance the kingdom of God in caring for others. If we see the great needs and close our hearts to those needs to live for our own advancement, does God's love live in them? It is completely inconsistent with our being the beloved children of God. We are warned to love in word or talk but in deed and truth. This is what gives us assurance in our hearts.
