Proverbs 22:17-24:22 -
Thirty Sayings of the Wise- as it regards living right before God and man


-Written and compiled by King Solomon
-Proverbs is all about wisdom
-The message of Proverbs is this: You can be wise. Choose the path of wisdom. Embrace wisdom. Love wisdom. Pursue wisdom.
-As Proverbs 1:7 teaches us- wisdom begins with a relationship with God
-Proverbs ultimately leads us to Jesus- who is wisdom. Everything Jesus said and did exemplifies wisdom. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3)


THIRTY SAYINGS TO LIVE BY

Note: We going to walk thru the text. We'll read all 30 sayings but I won't comment on them all. There is about 10 that I will comment on though :)

Solomon's preface/His introductory counsel Proverbs 22:17-21
Saying 1 - of how to live right before God and man -Proverbs 22:22-23

POINT: How you treat the poor- it's a big deal
Saying 2- as it regards living right before God and man -Proverbs 22:24-25

POINT: Be careful who you make friends with. Angry people don't make for good friends

Saying 3 -as it regards living right before God and man -Proverbs 22:26-27

POINT: Before you sign on the dotted line, ask yourself "Can I afford to lose everything?"
Saying 4

"28 Do not move an ancient boundary stone set up by your ancestors."
Saying 5 - as it regards living right before God and man Proverbs 22:29

POINT: Better yourself. Study. Train. Practice Improve your skills
Saying 7 as it regards living right before God and man

POINT: Don't trust in money. Don't let money consume you
Saying 12 as it regards living right before God and man

POINT: We are to train up our children in the ways of the LORD and to lovingly discipline them when they purposefully do wrong

Saying 18 as it regards living right before God and man Proverbs 23:29-35

POINT: Alcoholism, alcohol as a coping tool, getting wasted- NOT A GOOD THING
Saying 25 as it regards living right before God and man Proverbs 24:11-12

POINT: Be a good samaritan! Rescue the perishing! Point people to the Saviour- to Jesus
Saying 30 -as it regards living right before God and man Proverbs 24:21-22

POINT: We are accountable to God and to those who are over us. Obey God. Obey your leaders

CONCLUSION

So that's it: Solomon's TOP 30 sayings on how to live wisely before God and man. There is a lot in there for us and I love how once again we have verses that take us to Jesus- the ultimate embodiment of wisdom
