Jesus' parables were simple stories… taken from everyday life in Israel. They were carriers… for deeper truth. Sometimes they were exaggerations… to make a point. Jesus’ stories… illustrated God’s rule on earth… and, what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. Jesus’ stories often shocked… and surprised… the people who heard them… because He wanted to break through… their comfortable assumptions… so they would really think.
