The Potter and the Clay - Jeremiah 18-19:13 
 
Jeremiah learned… that a Sovereign God… has the right… to form a person… or a nation… into what He wants it to be. God has a design… and uses His skill… to work the clay… and develop what pleases Him. If there is an imperfection in the clay… that disrupts the design… the Potter presses the clay into a lump… and starts over… to make a vessel… for His purposes.

I have heard people say… if they were rich… they could be generous. The truth is… how I handle $10… indicates how I will handle $1 million. The eternal principle… Jesus taught was… if we are not faithful… with very little… we will not be faithful… with much. If we have not been faithful… using the wealth of the world… why should God give us… true riches? The one who is faithful… in very little… using money… will also be faithful… in much. And the one who is unrighteous… in using money… is also unrighteous… in the big things… greater spiritual opportunities.

When you read the gospels… you quickly realize 2 things: 1st - Jesus is beautiful; and, 2nd - Jesus is terrifying. He commands… people to do what He says… and, He expects… people to obey Him. His insight… into the human heart… is unmatched. His words… expose people’s desperate need for God… and, their spiritual bankruptcy. The more time you spend with Jesus … you realize… if you take Him seriously… the life you have built for yourself… is over.

Jesus’ stories often shocked… and surprised… the people who heard them… because He wanted to break through… their comfortable assumptions… so they would really think.

When God’s Truth… convicts us of our sin… we repent… and by faith… we are immersed into covenant with God. Then, by the power of God’s Spirit in us… we put to death… the desires of the flesh. That is plundering. That is Jesus… taking back what He paid for. It is the victory of the cross… that is already finished… in principle… being practiced… in real time.

So, God made certain… a message was sent… a death sentence was renounced… the enemy of God’s people was thrown down… and, a sword was given to God’s covenant people… that they could use… to destroy… and plunder… their enemies. This story… is a microcosm… of the story of the gospel of God’s Kingdom.

There is no task… more significant… than being God’s representative… on earth! That is what we are re-created in Jesus… to be. At our 2nd birth… God transfers us… out of the kingdom of darkness… and into His kingdom of Light. We are now… citizens of Heaven… who represent a foreign King. Paul described this as… “living worthy of the message of Jesus.” We display Heaven… by how we live… and, declare Heaven’s King… by what we say.
