Throughout this Leviticus series, we've been teasing a question about the actual connection between animal sacrifice and sin. A typical answer today is that the Israelites in the Hebrew Bible thought that killing an animal literally took away their sin. There are a few glaring problems with that simplistic approach, however. Today, I unpack an example that might help clarify the exact relationship between dealing with sin and Israel's liturgy of grace.
