John provides us with a powerful image of what happens when we pray. Like the smoke that rises from a bowl of burning incense, so the prayers of the saints rise to God’s throne. This section begins with this interlude and seems to be the catalyst that kicks off the next sequence of trumpets and plagues upon the earth.

Deviating from God's path will bring destruction and death. In today's passage, we look at the repercussions when Israel rejects God's path.

Week 56 – Leviticus 26:14-46 But if you will not listen...

Throughout this Leviticus series, we've been teasing a question about the actual connection between animal sacrifice and sin. A typical answer today is that the Israelites in the Hebrew Bible thought that killing an animal literally took away their sin. There are a few glaring problems with that simplistic approach, however. Revelation 8:2-13 Where do our prayers go?

Since chapter 6 we’ve been waiting for the full number of the redeemed to be sealed, and here we see the multitude who have come out of the ‘great tribulation.’ To what is this referring? A time yet to come? A season of persecution in the first century? Or perhaps a description of what God’s people go through continuously? 
 
The lamb breaks the final seal on this mysterious scroll and we’re almost ready to hear what’s inside.

We now come to the famous "144,000." Many have speculated to whom this group of redeemed refers—is it Israel in the end? A literal number of Christian believers? The sum total of all believers in the final heaven? 
 
Recall Chapter 5, where we HEARD about a lion but SAW a lamb? Well, here again, John HEARS one thing and SEES another. Could it be that the 144,000 is simply a symbolic way to describe the diverse multitude of all God's people across time? Let's see.

Revelation 7:1-10 The 144,000 look different than you might expect.

"John 3:16" for the Old Testament. 
 
Today we look at the passage more quoted within the rest of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) than any other. If you went to a football match in ancient Israel, you wouldn't see signs reading "John 3:16," but you would certainly see fans holding up "Exodus 34:6"! Let's take a look at what God reveals about his name and character that the Israelites found so valuable.

God takes these former slaves into the desert where he begins to teach them a whole new outlook on life and work and rest. The Israelites didn't know what to call this mystery bread, but it pointed them toward a posture God needed to instill in their community.

Pharaoh once again his heart hardened against letting the people go. This time his excuse is that only the men should go, but why would he allow anyone else. Moses' response shed light on God's idea of who should be allowed a seat at his table in worship.

A hurricane of mercy. 
 
We're jumping in at plague 7 of 10 that God sends against Pharaoh and the Egyptians. Some key ideas come out this week that help underline God's character and intent behind these severe plagues with which God is judging Pharaoh.
