The Death of Moses 
34 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, 2 all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, 3 the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.” 
 
5 And Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab, as the Lord had said. 6 He buried him[a] in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. 8 The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over. 
 
9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit[b] of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses. 
 
10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.

In this concluding sermon in our 2 month journey exploring the themes and motifs of the Israelite Exodus, we look at the whole of the experience. We do within the context of the death and burial of Moses, who is not allowed to enter into the Promised Land, even though he followed and trusted God, while leading the people to freedom and hope. 
 
This provides us the opportunity to look at the bigger picture of life and faith, seeing beyond just our own selves and to God's relationship with the larger community of God's creation.

On that same day the Lord told Moses, ‘Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount Nebo in Moab, opposite Jericho, and view Canaan, the land I am giving the Israelites as their own possession. There on the mountain that you have climbed you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people. This is because both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites. Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel.’ 
 
This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death. He said:

He came with myriads of holy ones

Surely it is you who love the people; 
 all the holy ones are in your hand. 
At your feet they all bow down,

the law that Moses gave us, 
 the possession of the assembly of Jacob. 
He was king over Jeshurun 
 when the leaders of the people assembled, 
 along with the tribes of Israel. 
 
‘Let Reuben live and not die, 
 nor his people be few.’ 
 
And this he said about Judah: 
 
‘Hear, Lord, the cry of Judah; 
 bring him to his people. 
With his own hands he defends his cause. 
 Oh, be his help against his foes!’ 
 
About Levi he said: 
 
‘Your Thummim and Urim belong 
 to your faithful servant. 
You tested him at Massah; 
 you contended with him at the waters of Meribah. 
He said of his father and mother, 
 “I have no regard for them.” 
He did not recognise his brothers 
 or acknowledge his own children, 
but he watched over your word 
 and guarded your covenant. 
He teaches your precepts to Jacob 
 and your law to Israel. 
He offers incense before you 
 and whole burnt offerings on your altar. 
Bless all his skills, Lord, 
 and be pleased with the work of his hands. 
Strike down those who rise against him, 
 his foes till they rise no more.’

About Zebulun he said:

About Gad he said: 
 
‘Blessed is he who enlarges Gad’s domain!

When the heads of the people assembled, 
 he carried out the Lord’s righteous will, 
 and his judgments concerning Israel.’ 
 
About Dan he said: 
 
‘Dan is a lion’s cub, 
 springing out of Bashan.’ 
 
About Naphtali he said: 
 
‘Naphtali is abounding with the favour of the Lord 
 and is full of his blessing; 
 he will inherit southward to the lake.’ 
 
About Asher he said: 
 
‘Most blessed of sons is Asher; 
 let him be favoured by his brothers, 
 and let him bathe his feet in oil. 
The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, 
 and your strength will equal your days. 
 
‘There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, 
 who rides across the heavens to help you

Bible Stories - Deuteronomy 32: 48 - 34:12: Moses Blesses The Tribes

On that same day the Lord told Moses, ‘Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount Nebo in Moab, opposite Jericho, and view Canaan, the land I am giving the Israelites as their own possession. There on the mountain that you have climbed you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people. This is because both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites. Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel.’

This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death. He said:

‘The Lord came from Sinai
    and dawned over them from Seir;
    he shone forth from Mount Paran.
He came with myriads of holy ones
    from the south,

"Chivalrous" is a person who believes in the "code of Chivalry" - especially when respecting one's foes as humans and only using necessary force to protect and defend those who are defenseless against their oppressors, also having genuine respect for all women as people, not as objects.  Chivalry is a "knightly code" : Respect towards all humanity, to always be brave and fearless about respecting human dignity whether friend or foe.  Chivalry also rightly includes treating all women with dignity and respect, as Laddies; being polite and courteous to them, irrespective of how they behave in kind.  I am a chivalrous person.

I am also a neurologically brain damaged, disabled, and handicapped US Military Veteran; proof of Military Service video is on this channel.  Video games help me rebuild lost functions inside my brain helping to restore every day life independences.  Mostly this channel is to share with my friends, and to keep 'time capsule' memories of my gameplay sessions for me.

- In talking about Moses’ journey which culminated in not being able to enter the Promised Land, Pastor Mathew said that the Presence of God can make even the desert feel like a Promised Land. In other words, the most difficult life circumstances can feel like a promised land if God is present. When have you experienced this to be true? 
 
Dive Into the Scripture: 
 
- How would you feel if you were Moses, unable to enter into the Promised Land after coming so far? 
- In verse 9 we learn that “Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him.” What does it mean to be filled with the spirit of wisdom? 
 
- Take a moment to examine these passages from Acts in which people laid their hands on others— Acts 6:1-6; 9:1-19; 13:1-3. What do we learn about the “laying on of hands” from these passages? (Who does it? What happens?) How does this help us understand more fully what happened with Joshua? 
 
Live It Out: 
 
- Take a moment to read Hebrews 11:24-26. How can you live like Moses this holiday season, choosing to be mistreated with God’s people at the margins instead of enjoying the “fleeting pleasures of sin” with those in power?
