The Unfolding Spiritual Interpretation of the Levitical Feast of Tabernacles
“The distance all around will be 18,000 cubits. And the name of the city from that time on will be: the Lord is there.” (Ezekiel 48:35)
Then I saw a new sky and a new earth, for the first sky and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. (Revelation 21:1
Since the Greek term ouranos is employed for both Heaven and sky, we have chosen the term “sky” in this instance.
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. (Revelation 21:2)
Immediately we are confronted with the two great errors of Christian thinking. First, that our eternal destiny is in the spirit world. Second, that the “beautiful” dress is ascribed to the Bride. It does not reflect a righteousness of behavior nor a holiness of personality that actually is true of her. The beauty of righteousness and holiness is imputed to her because she believes the facts concerning the Lord Jesus Christ.
No other two errors in thinking could have done more to destroy God’s intention to make man in His image.
As far as the common belief that our life after death is a fantasy existence that consists of creatures and experiences with which we are not familiar, we must keep in mind that God is making all things new, not all new things.
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” (Revelation 21:5)
However, it is the second error that has destroyed God’s intention. We are viewing Divine grace as an alternative to obeying God.
But notice:
Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. (Revelation 22:14,15)
What does it mean to wash our robes? It means to confess to the Lord every sin that the Spirit of God points out to us, and ask Jesus for help in turning away from it. If we do not do this, we are not allowed past the gates into the new Jerusalem. This means we cannot partake of the Water of eternal life, or of the Tree of Life, or of Divine healing.
But surely God will make an exception for us because we are “saved by grace.
Absolutely not! What God has stated clearly in His Word shall never be modified in order to please human thinking.
The purpose of Divine grace, given to us through the Lord Jesus Christ, is not to provide an alternative to what God has stated in His Word. We ought to know better than this! The purpose of Divine grace is to free us from the Law of Moses so we can turn from the written commandments of the Law that we might live in the Spirit of Life, receiving our directions from the Lord Himself. This is the New Covenant.
Under the New Covenant the Bible serves as a guide so we will not fall into the traps of demons while we are attempting to follow the Spirit of God.
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. (Revelation 21:2)
Think of it! The Holy City, the new Jerusalem, in the Body of the Servant of the Lord. Christ is the Head. Here is Heaven coming to the earth to reside for eternity. This is why the common belief that we will spend eternity in a fantasy land, doing nothing of significance, is so damaging to Christian thinking. What is important is the Kingdom of God, and our participation in it,
Included in the new Jerusalem there is a great company of angels.
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem.
