Message: LC-61 "John: The Beloved Disciple" - Mat. 10:1-4 
John goes from "Son of Thunder" to "Beloved Disciple" as he grows and matures in his service to Jesus Christ. By the end of his life when he writes the Gospel of John, the epistles and Revelation, we see a very different John who personifies the graces Jesus began developing in them so many years earlier. The emerging apostle is a theologian, writer of Scripture, Pastor, and adopted son charged with the care of Mary, Jesus' mother. What a transformation from the "rough-around-the-edges" disciple to "exemplary portrait of Christ-likeness!"

Jesus healing the paralyzed man who was brought and lowered through the roof to Jesus' feet by 4 men is certainly a favorite of our Sunday School accounts of Jesus' life and ministry. Yet, the profound message this miracle signified was that of the forgiveness of sins by Jesus - something ONLY God and God alone can do. Here, before Pharisees and Scribes from all over Israel, Jesus asserts his deity by forgiving this man his sins and then demonstrated His power to do so by healing him and sending him home with his stretcher - a visible sign of something only God can do.

The Lord called Moses and Joshua to the tabernacle and informed them of Israel's future abandonment of their Lord once they had rested in the land and prospered. He commissions a song to be written by Moses and taught to the people so that when it happened, the song would be a witness against them. Chapter 32 gives the words of the Song and describes God's Character and Israel's character and their formula for failure.

Moses gives Israel the exhortation to "Be Committed" by giving them the 5 necessary steps in order to be committed, and 4 reasons why they should be committed to the Lord. The same exhortations apply to New Testament believers who struggle with the same temptations to compromise, become independent of the Lord, and to become proud and self-righteous. May we heed these exhortations.

A wonderful story of how God turned a curse into a ministry of honor because of repentance and obedience on the part of the sons of Levi.

"Five Females Full of Faith" Numbers 27:1-11 - Kenneth Wells

Numbers 11:1-3 marks the first portion of Israel's Journey from Sinai to Kadesh Barnea. They come to a place to be named Taberah, due to their general complaining - no specific complaint is named. The message challenges believers to Not Complain! I. Because it is sin (v.1a); II. Because it brings God's Judgment (v.1b-2); and III. Because it scars our testimony (v.3). This section is the prelude to what becomes a pattern in following passages in the wilderness journey.
