"Don't waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice." 
 
There are certain people who will never listen to good advice. To give them good advice is to waste your breath and your time because they will stubbornly refuse to take it. 
 
Giving good advice to such people is called "casting your pearls before swine." Don't do it! 
 
Instead, give your good advice to those who are humble and teachable. They will gladly receive it.

Many people today are trying to get rich by lying and stealing. What they don't realize is what today's verse warns us about. Getting rich by lying and stealing is a deadly trap, and all your money will vanish in the end.

Proverbs 17: 4 
"A wicked man listens to evil lips." 
 
Today's verse reminds us that like attracts like. If a person is wicked at heart, that person will listen to others who urge him to do evil. 
 
We see this happening today in those rioters who are turning our cities upside down. They have been getting their orders from evil lips. 
 
What about you? Are you listening to evil lips? Or are you listening to righteous lips? 
 
I urge you: Listen only to those who teach you what is right.

"A wicked man listens to evil lips."

Today's verse makes it quite clear that those who fear God--in other words, those who respect and reverence Him and His Word--will take the right path, but those who despise God will not even pay attention to His Word. 
 
In which category do you find yourself? If in the latter--that is, among those who despise the Lord--I urge you to repent now and to turn around and to take the path of the wise. Respect and reverence the Lord and His Word.

Today's verse addresses two sins: pride and plotting evil. The Lord says that both of these are foolish.

A mocker is a person who holds authority in contempt and ridicule, who blasphemes what is holy and pure. 
 
Today we are witnessing many mockers who hold authority in contempt and ridicule, and who are blaspheming the things of God. 
 
Today's verse warns us that mockers will agitate a town. We are seeing this firsthand in places like Seattle and Portland. 
 
Don't be a mocker! How do we fight mockery? Through prayer, principle, and love. 
 
Be a wise person. Apply God's Word and bring peace to your town, not agitation.

When I was a little girl, my mother often used to say that there are two sides to every story. Today's verse is the source of that truth. 
 
Interestingly, when we listen to the first side of a story, we tend to believe that side until we hear the side of the second person in the situation. 
 
So, what do we do when we hear two sides and we don't know which is true? 
 
We ask the Holy Spirit to give us discernment. 
 
So, when you are facing a situation where you need to determine hwo is telling the truth, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you.

Proverbs 17: 19 
"Anyone who loves to quarrel loves sin." 
 
Today's verse is pretty clear cut. A person who loves to quarrel, who loves to pick a fight, loves sin. That is a pretty sobering statement! 
 
Do you love to pick a fight? Are you argumentative? If so, you love sin! 
 
Repent now and ask Jesus to forgive you. He will.

Proverbs 12: 2 
"The Lord approves of those who are good, but He condemns those who plan wickedness." 
 
 The "good" mentioned in this verse are those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, for only He is good. It is these people whom God approves.  
 
But He does not approve the wicked, those outside of Christ who live in sin. 
 
 Do you want God to approve you? Then accept Jesus Christ who alone can put God's stamp of approval on you.

Proverbs 12: 2

There is a serious consequence to rejecting God. There comes a point when God has had enough. Enough of our rebellion. Enough of our disobedience. Enough of rejecting Him and His Truth.   
 
When that happens, it is the point of no return. And no matter how much you cry out, God will not hear you. 
 
Are you taking God for a fool, my friend? Are you thinking that He will not punish you for what you do in disobeying Him and rejective Him? Then think twice and repent. For God is not mocked. You will reap what you sow.

  Today's verse sounds like our own generation, doesn't it? People think they are good when their hearts are really wicked.  
 
The only standard by which we can determine if we are good or not is the Holy Bible. Our own standards are faulty, and they will never tell us the truth about ourselves. But God's Word will always tell us the truth. 
 
Are you fooling yourself by thinking you are good? If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are not good! So, do that right now, and then you will be good because you will be in Christ.

 Today we are witnessing the bad fruit of the sexual revolution that had its roots in the sixties and is now demonstrating itself in rebellion, lawlessness, and gross sexual immorality. Such rottenness in a nation will make its government topple, and we are seeing our government topple before our very eyes. 
 
Remember this, that "wise and knowledgeable" leaders bring stability. But this means they are wise and knowledgeable in the ways of God, not in the ways of the world. 
 
When you go to the polls this year, vote for leaders who are wise and knowledgeable in the ways of God.
