In this video, I am reading from 2 Chronicles 31:20 and 2 Chronicles 31:21, and talking about the cost of commitment. I will be sharing from John Maxwell's Leadership Promises for Every Day; it's a great leadership-based devotional. He explains in this section the price of commitment that King Hezekiah had to make to get the job done. 
 
2 Chronicles 31:20-21 
'In this way, King Hezekiah handled the distribution throughout all Judah, doing what was pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord his God. In all that he did in the service of the Temple of God and in his efforts to follow God’s laws and commands, Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful.'

Cost of Commitment | 2 Chronicles 31:20-21

Don't waste your life in pursuit of everything just to wind up catching nothing! 
In this video, I am talking about Ecclesiastes 2:10 and 2:11. This is where King Solomon is writing about the dangers of too many pursuits. 
 
There is the assumption that King Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes. So he is writing much of it in first person. He shares the danger in too many pursuits, as discussed here in the following verses talking about the futility of pleasure. We can learn a lot here from Solomon’s mistakes. 
 
Ecclesiastes 2:10-11 (NLT) 
'Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure. I even found great pleasure in hard work, a reward for all my labors. But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.' 
 
In society right now, there are so many options. So many things that we think we should do, so many that we want to do. FOMO is real. Focus is fading. 
When we pursue our worldly goals, “ALL THE THINGS” that we want and desire; we often die in the struggle. When we pursue unrelated goals it is a vain attempt to satisfy us and provide what makes us happy in the moment. 
When Solomon was writing this portion, he had achieved much success, one would think he was happy and satisfied, yet he still felt empty inside. 
We have all heard the sayings, jack of all trades, and master of none. – OR – When you try to catch two rabbits, you end up catching neither of them. 
 
Here are five things you can do, or ask yourself to help you in making decisions on what you should be pursuing right now. 
1. Does this fit my priorities and character? 
2. Do I know how to do this and this well? 
3. Is there someone that can do this better than I can? 
4. If I asked someone else, what would they say? 
5. Do I have the time to take this on?

In this video, I am talking about your spiritual gifts as discussed in Romans 12:6-8. 
 
Romans 12:6-8 
'In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.' 
 
All of us have been in positions either in school, or teams growing up, or maybe now at work… where either we or someone on our team has had to take on a role that didn’t suit them… haven’t we? This is when people are operating outside of their spiritual gifts. 
 
For example: Maybe you are an accomplished outside linebacker asked to play center… a long-time history teacher filling in as a math substitute… maybe it’s a naturally amazing salesperson put into a role to work with the CFO and process accounting… or even our roles at home. 
God gives us all a unique purpose, and all of us have unique gifts to fulfill that purpose. My teenage son came to me and asked, “Dad, I’m doing this school project and I am having a tough time determining ability versus skill.” I explained to him… our abilities are built-in. They are often God-given and there to serve us… skills have to be learned. 
 
When we find and practice skills that accentuate our natural abilities, that is when our gifts are revealed. These are the things that we are good at and love doing, God gave us these gifts to compliment others and grow into our purpose. 
 
So going back to the salesperson doing accounting… what happens when we force ourselves to operate outside of our gifts? When we are constantly playing out of position? Not only do we get frustrated… but so do our teammates, peers, or family members. When people are put in a position where they don’t do well… then most of the time, things don’t turn out well. 
 
As you head out right now, what is one of your spiritual gifts that you can give to someone today?

Your Spiritual Gifts | Romans 12:6-8 | Mornings With Mike

Today I am sharing about finding true joy and abundance. And in Today's verse 1 Chronicles 16:27 we receive a reminder that joy is not dependent on our circumstances. True joy is dependent on living in faith, light, and having purpose. 
 
1 Chronicles 16:27 
'Honor and majesty surround him; strength and joy fill his dwelling.' 
 
Joy comes from living in the presence of God. 
 
I’m sure you have likely heard, or you may know someone that seemingly has it all together, they have status, and money, and things, but they are unhappy, they haven’t found true joy, because they haven’t found God. 
 
Joy can be found in some of the most unlikely places. It comes from true love, and faith, and kindness, and relationship with other people and with God.

1 Chronicles 16:27 | Finding Joy | Mornings With Mike #MWM

I love the book of Proverbs. Proverbs 4 in the NLT version of the Bible is titled "A Father's Wise Advice." So today I am getting into Proverbs 4:25 and Proverbs 4:26 specifically to talk about moving forward and keeping yoru eyes forward on your goals. 
 
A wise person does not get distracted from his or her goals. It reminds us of this in multiple verses in the Bible. God wants us to use your talents and serve him in moving forward and seeking and seeing success. 
 
God wants your attention in the present. He wants you to “look straight ahead” because what He has for you is not behind you, but in front. You need to keep your eyes facing forward on what it is that God has planned. 
 
There is a big internal struggle and that is that so many of us remain tied to the mistakes and pains of our past. 
 
History, especially personal history, has its role to play in our journeys. But often, we try to live in a place we should only visit. I have told my kids, " We can learn from our past, we just shouldn't live there." 
 
Learn from your past and then keep going. That isn’t your home any longer. 
What’s one action you can take today that will prove you are moving past your past?

Proverbs 4:25-26 | Keep Moving Forward | Mornings With Mike #MWM

Today we talk about taking risk and receiving mercy. I'll be sharing from Philippians 2 verse 27. In this verse Paul is referring to, and commending Epaphroditus, who risked it all. He did this when delivering funds and goods to Paul while he was in jail. And in this he is writing to Epaphroditus's home church. 
 
Philippians 2:27 
'And he certainly was ill; in fact, he almost died. But God had mercy on him—and also on me, so that I would not have one sorrow after another.' 
 
Here, Paul states that God's "mercy" came in the form of healing. This mercy was not just for the man who was sick, but also for Paul. Thery had become close friends. Paul saw this recovery as a personal mercy for himself, from God. Paul would have grieved the same way any of us would grieve for a close friend or even a family member. So God’s mercy was granted for both men because they were willing to take risk. 
 
We often live in our bubbles, in the comfort of our homes, behind our computers and keyboards, declaring what should be done, but not always doing. It is as important to act as it is to plan. And any time you take action, there is some level of risk.

Luke 9:25 
'And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?' 
 
If we live our lives trying to bring fulfillment to ourselves and achievement that brings honor to only us, we're going to end up losing everything of eternal value. 
 
You may have heard the saying, “You’ll never see a Uhaul behind a hearse.” And keep in mind… there are no trailer hitches on hearses for a reason: All we take with us into the next life is our relationship with Jesus and with those who love him. 
 
So let's not pursue what is temporary, or what may ultimately be insignificant, or unimportant. 
 
The only lasting investment for our lives is Jesus!

Mark 10:43-44 | Me First! | Morning With Mike #MWM

In this video I discuss the question... "Now what?" As it appears, though not in this exact form in Nehemiah 7:1 and leading into Nehemiah 7:2. Two emotions often follow after we complete something great… we end up with both a sense of relief and a sense of celebration! Then comes the next question, “now what?” 
 
Right after we achieve something big, we relish our big success. This can actually be a really dangerous time. The reason is simply that we’ve already completed that massive goal that we started in on. Sometimes we then feel tempted towards complacency, especially if we lack a follow-up call to action or we lack the ability to answer that question, “what’s next?” 
 
Nehemiah 7:1-2 
1 'After the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in the gates, the gatekeepers, singers, and Levites were appointed. 2 I gave the responsibility of governing Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah, the commander of the fortress, for he was a faithful man who feared God more than most. ' 
 
This happens to us regularly in life, we become satisfied with what we’ve done and then we let our guard down. We accept and we want to rest on our past rather than to pursue that next thing into our future. Simply stated our momentum leaks… 
 
Any moment of victory is a crucial time for us as individuals and certainly for organizations. And when you as an individual, or if you are a leader of an organization don’t know how to move forward and grow the organization then a transitional problem occurs. 
 
I’m going to share two types of leadership seasons for transition from John Maxwell’s “Leadership Promises For Every Day.”

Today I am sharing Exodus 3:11. Where just after God is speaking from a miraculously burning bush. God says He will send Moses to liberate Israel from Egyptian slavery. Moses understands the mission. He repeats the exact calling of going and bringing the Israelites out of Egypt. The mission is overwhelming and massive. He responds to God's call with doubt. He does not see himself as the best person to go free the Jews. He doesn’t see himself as the best leader for the task. 
 
Exodus 3:11 
'But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”' 
 
We have all felt this way in times of difficulty. We have all felt inadequate or that maybe there is a better choice in someone else. Know this! If God chose you, you show up and go! 
 
God often calls the most unlikely people to accomplish His greatest tasks. Now God is calling an eighty-year-old exiled shepherd to rescue slaves from the hands of the world's most powerful ruler. Moses realizes the difficulty of the mission. Only God's power would be sufficient to accomplish it. God’s response… I’ll be with you.

Today I am going to be sharing with you a message from Nehemiah 4:14. 
 
14 Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!” 
 
This verse has stood out to me, and reminded me this week to hold fast to our belief systems, and our support systems. Stand firm for our families, and those dear to us, our homes, and the house of God, our faith. In the verse prior to this one, he is talking about fortifying their defenses, having armed guards at the wall. 
 
I believe this is a word of encouragement that's needed by many here today. There are so many trying to break down our walls. 
 
As Christians, we have to have fortitude and stand firm. 
 
Remember that God is fair and just, and just because people (we) are kind, and have faith, doesn’t mean that we should be pushovers. Be willing to take a stand!! I often get my faith and Christianity in general thrown in my face, as if it is some weapon to be used against people… “You can’t get mad, you can’t be mean, you have to follow the ‘rules.’” 
 
God is on the field with you. 
 
Always believe that God is on your side. 
He is on the field on both offense and on the defensive, even when we think he is the most invisible. God’s protection is complete; you cannot see it, but there it is. It is YOU that can keep the spiritual connection, and your faith will remain safe.

Today I talk about the end of the book of Job. After enduring 40 chapters worth of ridicule and criticism and condemnation…. Job is given the opportunity by the Lord to give payback. He had the opportunity to say – “I TOLD YOU SO!” But he didn't. Let's dive into Job 42:10 and talk about the blessings. 
 
As all good leaders should Job took the high road – He didn’t take his vengeance, or hold a grudge, instead he just prayed for his friends. He worshipped and lifted God up, and prayed for people. He took the high road, he forgave. And because he did this, God blessed him abundantly. 
 
It’s always heathier to take the high road than the low road when it comes to people. 
It may feel more difficult at the time, but the rewards are boundless, they are always larger in the long run than our expectations.

Job 42:10 | Mornings With Mike #MWM

There is a powerful message in Mark 9:23. A message of belief, faith, and hope. 
 
Mark 9:23 
23“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” 
 
The story is talking about healing this boy that was possessed since youth. This is a for me, reminder of faith in it’s purest form and belief and how far it can carry us when we believe what is right. 
 
The story is talking about healing this boy that was possessed since youth. This is a for me, reminder of faith in it’s purest form and belief and how far it can carry us when we believe. God knows what is right. So we need to go to Him. Trust God, believe in Him. 
 
Jesus' words have been heard and translated in so many different ways. He may have been making an ironic rebuke to a father and a crowd who have placed their faith (and doubt) in the disciples instead of God. Or He may be saying, "As far as your words, 'if you can'…" to highlight what He is responding to. 
 
The sentiment He quotes reflects the climate of the entire crowd. The father has a hard time believing Jesus can save his boy when His disciples can't. 
Jesus isn't saying that we can accomplish anything we want if we have enough faith; this isn't an endorsement of the Word of Faith teachings. True faith doesn't presume that God will do what we want but that God can do what He wants.

Keep on keepin' on because God will answer you!" Rather than spending a lot of words on what we're supposed to do, let's just hear Jesus tell us to keep on doing it and do it! 
 
Consider this: sometimes we are faced with two equally good choices. Certainly, we can decide and decipher right from wrong – but what if both options are viewed as good. And keep in mind, it may not be on our timeline, but it always fits in God’s timeline. 
 
Therefore we have to keep knocking, and seeking, and asking through prayer.

Revelation 3:20-21 | Answer the door! | Mornings With Mike #MWM

Today I am sharing two bible verses. I'm sharing from Zechariah 7:9 and Zechariah 7:10. I feel like this is a good message for the times we are currently experiencing all over the world. As humans we need to be reminded to treat others as Christ would treat them. 
 
Zechariah 7:9-10 
'“ 9 This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another. 10 Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor. And do not scheme against each other.' 
 
This is a clear, simple, straightforward word from the Lord. That's what is given to us in this chapter of Zechariah. He reminds us that God wants us to be fair, compassionate, caring, without prejudice, and tenderhearted to those in need, and to give each other the benefit of the doubt. In other words, he wants us to treat each other like Christ treated people. Why? You cannot be right with God if you are wrong with people!

At the beginning of the verse, it is a reminder that we are gifted our time here on the earth. However long your life is, it is a gift to be thankful for. It is a miracle that you are here and able to hear this message today. As that gift, do not take any single day for granted. At 40, you still have half your time, probably more - here on this earth to do good? Are you? 
 
At the end of our time here, God is our judge and jury. We cannot conceive or understand what that wrath may be, reconcile with God. Because our God is fair and just, so make peace, and all will be okay. 
 
Life is short. Shorter than we think it may be. True wisdom, comes from divine instruction, you MUST listen. You will understand when the time is right. It comes from an understanding that no matter how long we think our lives may be, all of that can change in at a moment. Then our whole world, our understanding of our lives, of God, of existence

Nothing should separate us from God. Don't be afraid to praise Him, in your heart, your head and to be able to speak your praise. I think this is one of the reasons that I entered into this 30 Day Challenge. I just felt compelled to show the love that I have in my heart to others. When you are not afraid to speak and share in praise, there is a weight that is lifted in sharing the glory that God can bring to all of us.

30 Days of Bible Verses - Today is Day 22
Psalms 86:12
"With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever,"

Nothing should separate us from God. Don't be afraid to praise Him, in your heart, your head and to be able to speak your praise. I think this is one of the reasons that I entered into this 30 Day Challenge. I just felt compelled to show the love that I have in my heart to others. When you are not afraid to speak and share in praise, there is a weight that is lifted in sharing the glory that God can bring to all of us.

Numbers 32:23 (NLT) 
"But if you fail to keep your word, then you will have sinned against the Lord, and you may be sure that your sin will find you out." 
 
Simply said - do what you say you will do. When you follow through it keeps your integrity intact, it allows you to stay congruent and true. Even if you don't get found out and judged by men (or women), in the end, nothing is hidden from God.
