Never before has anyone spoken like this man. 
 
????Today, the Gospel presents the different reactions, which the words of our Lord produced. John's text does not offer us any word from the Master, but it does mention the consequences of what He said. Some thought He was a prophet; others said “This is truly the Prophet.” (Jn 7:41). 
 
????Jesus Christ is truly a “sign that will be contradicted” as Simon had told Mary (Lk 2:34). Those who listened to Jesus' words did not remain indifferent to them, to the point that, on this occasion, as in many others, “a division occurred in the crowd because of him” (Jn 7:43). The reply of the officers who wanted to arrest the Lord centers the question and shows us the power of Christ's words: “Never before has anyone spoken like this man.” (Jn 7:46). It is like saying: His words are different; they are not empty boastful words, full of arrogance and falseness. He is “the Truth” and his way of speaking reflects this reality. 
 
????And if this happened amid his audience, his deeds provoked even more amazement and admiration; but also, criticism, gossip, hate... Jesus Christ spoke “the language of charity”: his deeds and his words showed the deep love He felt towards all men, especially those more in need of assistance. 
 
????Today we as Christians are must be “a sign of contradiction”, because we do not speak and behave like others do. By imitating and following Jesus Christ, we must use “the language of charity and love”, a necessary language that, we all must understand. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, wrote in his encyclical Deus caritas est, “Love will always prove necessary, even in the most just society. Whoever wants to eliminate love is preparing to eliminate man as such". 
 
????Saint Irenaeus of Lyon says “He who was the Son of God became the Son of man, that man, having been taken into the Word, and receiving the adoption, might become the son of God". We born as human beings, the sons of man, are called to become the sons of God by following the footsteps of Jesus. God Bless!

This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land, and the seed would sprout and grow” 
 
????Today, Jesus is telling people about an experience very close to his life: “a man were to scatter seed on the land” (…), “the seed would sprout and grow” (…) “Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear” (Mk 4:26-28). With these words Jesus is speaking of the kingdom of God, consisting “of sanctity and grace, Truth and Life, justice, love and peace” that He is bringing us. We must make this kingdom real. First within each one of us; afterwards for our entire world. 
 
????In every Christian's, soul Jesus Christ has sown, by virtue of the Baptism, the grace, the sanctity, the Truth... It is necessary that these seeds sprout, grow and bear a multitude of good fruits, our deeds: deeds of service and charity, of kindness and generosity, of sacrifice to properly comply with our daily duty and to make happy those around us; deeds of constant prayer, of forgiveness and understanding, of effort to grow in virtue, of joy... 
 
????Thus, this Kingdom of God that begins within each one of us will extend to our family, to our people, to our society, to our world. Because, he who lives like that, “what does he do but preparing the path of God (...), so that the strength of grace fills him and the light of truth lights him up; so that his ways to God are always straight?” says Saint Gregory the Great. 
 
????The seed begins very small, “It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” But the force of God's will scatters it all over and makes it grow up with a surprising vigor. Jesus asks us today as in the beginning of Christianity to spread his kingdom throughout the entire world. 
 
????Lord, I want to plant my seed of faith in you. I know you see the full tree my faith can become. Each day I will water the seed in my field with prayer. I will set up fences to block out the pests of distractions or doubts so they can't damage my faith. I will fertilize it by self-sacrifice. May my faith grow tall and one day give shelter to others. He saw and believed 
 
????Today, the liturgy celebrates the festivity of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist. Saint John is the one who better and most deeply understood the mystery of the Word Incarnate. John was the very first “theologian” and best example for any other true theologian. Today's Gospel helps us to consider Christmas from the perspective of the Lord's Resurrection. Indeed, when John arrived at the empty tomb, “he saw and believed” (Jn 20:8). Trusting the Apostles’ testimony, every Christmas we are stimulated to ‘see’ and ‘believe’, too. 
 
????We can also find these same words “see” and “believe” in connection with Jesus' birth, the Word incarnated. Pushed by his heart's intuition and we should add, by “grace” John “sees” beyond what, at that time, his eyes can see. In fact, he believes without “having yet seen” the Christ; and receives the praise of those “who have not seen and have believed". 
 
????Peter and John “run” together towards the tomb, but John “ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first” (Jn 20:4). It seems that the desire to be again by the side of the One he loved 'Christ' was stronger than that of physically being next to Peter, and allowed him to be the first to enter the tomb. Yet, it is his ardent heart, full of zeal, John's impassionate love, which impels him to “run” and “outrun”. This is a clear invitation for us to equally live our faith with such a fervent desire to see the Resurrection. 
 
????A saint lives his life quickly, even if his years are long. He lives it quickly because he lives each day, each moment, intensely for Christ and souls. He lives his prayer life intensely in spite of the natural fatigue and moments of dryness, because he knows the time spent in prayer is the most important moment of the day. A saint lives his service to his family and to others with the intensity of love. Rather than tiring him, love brings him closer to God. We are called to love and to live with intensity without fear. 
 
????Lord, thank you for St. John’s faith. He was close to your heart. Help me to place my heart in your heart. I want to run to you, Lord, throughout the ups-and-downs of my life, the good times and the bad. Today I will stay close to you in my heart. Stay close to me also. God Bless!

What did you go out to the desert to see?” 
 
????Jesus asked the people what exactly they were looking for. As he pointed out, they did not go to see John because he was weak or uninspiring. They didn’t rush to see him because he was wealthy or handsomely garbed. They went out into the desert to see him because he spoke words of hope and salvation. All the people who listened, including the tax collectors, and who were baptized with the baptism of John, acknowledged the righteousness of God. 
 
????Jesus speaks the words that fulfill the deepest longings of our hearts. We all want to be loved, to feel that our lives have meaning and purpose. We know that the “handsome garments” as lovely and enjoyable as they may be, will not fulfill this deep need in our hearts. Jesus reassures us that what we seek is available to us. In his Kingdom, each and every one of us is equally cherished and loved by the Father. The words of Jesus “among those born of women, no one is greater than John; yet the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he” imply and confirm his great and personal love for each of us. We are all equals in the love of our Father, who has a beautiful and perfect plan for every human being. It is up to us whether or not we invite him into the daily work, struggles, sufferings, and joys of our lives. 
 
????We must leave behind our comfort and luxury and face reality as it is: disturbed by consumerism and selfishness we have forgotten what God is expecting from us. Jesus seems to want us to get rid of that eagerness of ours for a futile curiosity, of the arrogance the Pharisees and Masters of the Law showed by looking down upon God's plans for them by ignoring John's call. We realize that only our “knowledge of God” will not save us; we must know Him, love Him and follow Him; we need a response from deep inside us, sincere, humble and grateful. He offers us the gift of his forgiveness and his presence; He breaks whatever distance between us; He knocks at our door. Humble, patient, now He knocks at your heart: in your desert, in your loneliness, in your failings, in your incapacity, He wants you to see his love. 
 
????Let us thank God for the implicit meaning of today’s Gospel. When God says that the least person in the Kingdom is greater than John, He is revealing just how special we are to Him. Let us rest in the assurance of His deep and abiding love for us. God Bless!

The one who is found to be the least among you all, is the one who is the greatest! 
 
????Today, on their way to Jerusalem heading towards the Passion, "the disciples were arguing about which of them was the most important" (Lk 9:46). Every day the media, and even our conversations, are full of comments regarding the importance of some people: whether others or ourselves. This kind of logic, which is strictly human, quite often results in an unreasonable yearning for success, recognition, admiration, gratitude, or in a lack of peace if these expected rewards fail to reach us. 
 
????Jesus' reaction to the thoughts of his disciples —and, perhaps, their remarks, too— reminds us of the old prophets' style. Before words come gestures. Jesus «took a little child and stood him by his side» (Lk 9:47). Afterwards, comes the teaching: «the least among you all, is the one who is the greatest» (Lk 9:48). —O Jesus, why is it so difficult for us to accept this is not an utopia for those who are not involved in the hustled and bustled in overwhelming activity, fighting one another for success, whereas, thanks to your grace, it could, instead, be enjoyed by all of us? If we could, we would deep down have much more peace and would be able to do our job with more serenity and joy. 
 
????This attitude is also the source where joy comes from, when seeing that others work well for God, with a different style to ours, but always on Jesus' name. The disciples wanted to prevent it. The Master, instead, protects those other persons. Once again, the fact of feeling as God's small children makes it easy for us to open our hearts to everybody while growing in joy, peace and thankfulness. This doctrine is what deserves St. Therese of Lisieux the title of “Doctor of the Church”: in her book Story of a Soul, she admires the Church as a beautiful garden of flowers, where she is happy to consider herself just a little flower. By the side of the great saints —roses and white lilies— there are the little ones —daisies and violets— intended to give pleasure to God's eyes, when He gazes at the Earth. 
 
????Give me the grace to see people and actions through your eyes. Let me bring my standards in line with yours. Let me learn to look at a person's heart rather than his appearance. And above all, give me the wisdom never to stand in the way of people doing good for your Church. God Bless!

Keep Love Of God In All We Do! 
 
????As we struggle with so many commitments and responsibilities, we too ask the same question as the scribe, ‘Which of the commandments is the first of all?’ What should be first in my list of priorities, what is my most important duty? 
 
????The first commandment is to love God with all we have – not only with our hearts, but with all our limbs. We need to be embracing the Almighty in all we do. We are called to give him total love in a spirit of adoration. The second is that we have to love the neighbour (all mankind) as being part of ourselves. Especially their sufferings need to impinge on us. Our love should not be for those who please us, but also for those that we don’t like and may be hostile to us. 
 
????The most important thing in life is to have a loving heart, which is very demanding. When we are committed to love, we are not far from the kingdom of God. It's like the open door to the kingdom. Our need for love sometimes brings us to darker places and selfishness, so we need the help of God that love be purified and so bring us closer and closer to the sincerity and purity of love in God's kingdom. 
 
????It is not always easy to love God emotionally, especially when life is difficult. “We are God’s work of art”, as St. Paul tells us in Ephesians. It can be difficult for us to love our neighbour if we don’t love ourselves. Jesus was able to engage in dispute without losing sight of the value of the person to whom he was speaking. Think of what we might do to preserve our values in the world around us. 
 
????Let us pray that we do all the good we can, by all the means we can, in all the ways we can, in all the places we can, at all the times we can, to all the people we can, as long as ever we can. God bless!

Rejection By Others Should Not Put Us Back In Doing Good To Them! 
 
????When Jesus first proclaimed the good news of God's kingdom to his own townspeople at Nazareth, he was met with angry incredulity. Their very familiarity with him blinded them to his colossal mission. The reality of non-acceptance was part of Jesus’ life from the very first moments. 
 
????The people had come to their conclusions; they left no room for Jesus to work in a new way. They were able to listen to his message and accept it only if it did not reflect negatively on them. Jesus, experienced rejection from those close to him whom was trying to help. Did he feel shocked, angry, unsure, depressed? How did he feel when others rejected? What did he do with his feelings? He went off to serve others, with the same risk of rejection again. Jesus will help us not to go into despair when a relationship is difficult. 
 
????Jesus’ home town thought they knew him so well that there was nothing new he had to say to them. Very often we do fail to pay real attention to those close to us. We might be missing something very important in another person familiarity play a major role in our relationships. God can speak to us in the most unexpected way and through the most unexpected or unimportant people. Let us not bring fixed ideas about anyone before God and in our relationships, that we may let go of them a little. Pray that our fixed ideas about others may not blind us to the movement of God's spirit. 
 
????Many of us have been familiar with the words of Jesus from childhood. We have heard the narratives, the sermons, the parables so often that it is difficult to imagine it in this way that ‘The word of God is living and active’. Allow oneself to hear any message from God which calls one to growth. Accept that we are on a journey and have not arrived yet. Let the Holy Spirit, set the words on fire for us when we next open the Holy Bible. 
 
????Lord, let me be more humble. Let me seek to know the truth about myself, even though it may be painful. Only the truth will set me free. Lord, give me eyes that see and ears that hear - this day and every day of my life. God bless!

????No Jew would defile himself by touching a leper, but goodness flows out of Jesus and he cures him. Jesus responds positively to the pleading of the man for healing. 
 
????Jesus did things his own way. He was concerned with more than bodily healing. He was bothered most by the helplessness and humiliation of those rejected by society. He did not give them a hand-out but much more: a new relationship with their God, which helped them live with new dignity. 
 
????Here “leprosy” may refer to a less severe form of skin disease. Let us reach out with compassionate care, with love, with a touch, to those who have been rejected and mistreated in family life, work, friendship or in community. 
 
????Lord help us bring the love and commitments of our lives to prayer. Deepen our convictions and commitments to God and others that we help them live with dignity. God bless!

Jesus, the familiar young local carpenter, is home again, fresh from his baptism in the River Jordan. The people did not know that when John baptised Jesus, the voice of the Father had come from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved.” 
 
????All eyes are fixed on him as he stands up to read. He unrolls the scroll of the prophet Isaiah and reads his chosen passage and sits down. He boldly identifies himself as the anointed one of God. He declares that his mission is to proclaim the Good News of the reign of God, a God of love and compassion, especially for the poor and the oppressed. 
 
????Join the synagogue congregation, and hear this charismatic young man speaking the prophecy of Isaiah as his own mission. As we listen, know with excitement that he is reaching out to us to join him. We are called to be part of that unending mission, to bring good news, vision and freedom to those who need them. 
 
????Lord, open our hearts to the broken body of Christ revealed in our suffering brothers and sisters. Make us hunger for justice and work for peace. May your compassion be a constant burning fire in our life. God bless!

An old woman is given to us as a model of discipleship. She had moved beyond the past and looked to a new future. There was no looking back with regret with what life has brought her. She had grown strong and was filled with wisdom. 
 
????In a few words we are given a summary of her life – her name, her father’s name, her tribe and her long life as a widow. What stands out more than all of those is the quality of her life, especially her faith. 
 
????There is no mention of her challenging life with all its losses. She is old but full of hope and She is a model of waiting, fasting, praise, recognising, and of prayer. The life of Anna was hidden away in the temple. Anna never left the temple but worshipped there with fasting and prayer night and day. 
 
????We must value the hidden quality of prayer. What each one is interiorly unknown to anyone else is of vital consequence to God. Let us never doubt the value of ‘wasting time’ hidden with God the Father. We are to put God first in our lives. 
 
????Jesus tells us that it is no harm to live quietly, and to allow time for God's favour to be upon us. Let our prayer draw strength from God and seek the fidelity of Anna in welcoming and presenting Jesus to those around us. God bless!

John’s mission was to introduce Jesus and help people be ready for and recognise Jesus. So he was able to point others clearly to Jesus as the only Savior whom they desperately needed. John’s witness bear fruit as several of his disciples believe in Jesus and begin to follow Him. 
 
????How does John help us to point others to Jesus in the wilderness of this time? 
 
????1. To effectively point others to Jesus, we need to be clear on who we are not (1:19-21). 
 
A. He was not the Christ (1:19-20). 
B. He was not Elijah (1:21A). 
C. He was not the Prophet (1:21B). 
 
????2. To effectively point others to Jesus, we need to be clear on who we are (1:22-28). 
 
A. A voice of one crying out in the wilderness (1:23). 
B. One who baptizes the repentant in water (1:24-26A). 
C. A lowly servant of Jesus (1:27). 
 
????3. When we’re clear on who we are in God’s kingdom, we can effectively point others to Christ. 
 
First, humble one self in the holy presence of Christ. 
 
Second, one can only point people to Jesus to the extent that one truly knows Him. 
 
Third, humility is essential for a correct view of one self. 
 
Fourth, whatever one's gifts and calling, one must point people to Jesus. 
 
????John’s aim was to deflect attention from himself and to exalt Christ as the one worthy of all glory. He pointed everyone to Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. God bless!

Always be ready to walk to God! 
 
The stories of Noah, flood, and the destruction of Sodom, were in the memory of Israel. The people were engaged in their own everyday activities when the disaster struck. We are challenged to focus our attention on our relationship with God. 
 
Lot’s wife, who looked back became a pillar of salt. She became so because she could not leave the past behind her. We are on a pilgrimage back to our heavenly home. We are not to be tied to anything or anyone. Live our lives based on God's plan for us. 
 
Many overwhelming events catch us by surprise in life. Jesus warns us that the time for decision can catch us unawares, and never postpone it. God gives us the help to live our life for him and not be caught by surprise. 
 
The only way to be prepared is to live a good life, one based on love. Then the coming of the Son of Man will not be a disaster but our final liberation. God bless!
