Keadilan selalu menciptakan kehidupan yang baik dan harmonis karena setiap orang diperlakukan dengan baik, sesuai dengan harkat, martabat, dan hak-haknya. Idealisme seperti inilah yang diharapkan untuk dipraktikkan di dalam kehidupan bersama, sebab keadilan akan memperkuat kehidupan bersama dan meningkatkan penghargaan terhadap masing-masing pribadi. Di tengah pandemi Covid-19, praktik keadilan mengalami tantangan yang berat karena situasi wabah menyebabkan orang-orang berusaha menyelamatkan diri mereka sendiri-sendiri. Yang memiliki koneksi atau modal finansial yang memadai bisa memperoleh akses yang lebih baik daripada mereka yang tidak memiliki apapun. Orang-orang tidak diperlakukan dengan baik; martabat manusiawi mereka tidak dihargai. Kejahatan bisa muncul dari situasi yang tidak bersahabat ini. Nasihat Amos untuk tidak mencari yang jahat merupakan nasihat yang tepat agar wabah ini tidak dimanfaatkan demi kepentingan pribadi. Karena itu, dengan tegas Amos juga meminta untuk membenci yang jahat agar keadilan meraja. Ketidakadilan selalu menciptakan penderitaan. Yang amat menderita adalah orang-orang kecil dan sederhana. Mereka tidak berdaya ketika keadilan tidak ditegakkan secara transparan di pintu-pintu gerbang kota atau di depan umum. Dalam situasi pandemi Covid-19, kita mesti memperhatikan praktik keadilan agar tidak terdapat kesenjangan yang kian tajam antara yang kaya dan yang miskin, yang kemudian menciptakan kelompok yang kuat dan kelompok yang lemah. Tuhan tidak akan pernah hadir dalam setiap praktik ketidakadilan. Ia membenci ketidakadilan karena ketidakadilan merupakan hal yang jahat. Hal yang bisa dibuat oleh semua orang di tengah situasi ketidakadilan dan kesenjangan sosial adalah meningkatkan solidaritas di antara sesama manusia. Solidaritas ini akan mempererat relasi kemanusiaan yang renggang akibat pembatasan sosial, dan juga turut membantu sesama yang amat berkekurangan untuk bangkit dari keterpurukan mereka. Yesus sendiri secara khusus mengecam ketidakadilan dan praktik yang menjauhkan solidaritas yang dijalankan oleh orang-orang Farisi dan ahli-ahli Taurat. Mereka, misalnya, meletakkan beban yang berat pada orang lain, padahal mereka sendiri tidakmau menyentuhnya. Mereka menuntut orang lain melakukan kewajiban-kewajiban hidup keagamaan, sedangkan mereka sendiri tidak mempraktikkannya (lih. Mat. 23:1-4). Praktik semacam ini merenggangkan relasi sosial, yang pada gilirannya tidak bisa meningkatkan solidaritas. Keadilan dapat berdiri tegak dalam masyarakat ketika semua menerima satu sama lain sebagai saudara dan tidak membeda-bedakan dalam memperlakukan sesama.

La palabra que acusa y vivifica debe ser oída y obedecida, como también las palabras de consuelo y paz, porque sea que oigamos o no, la palabra de Dios tendrá efecto. El Señor todavía proclama misericordia a los hombres, pero a menudo ellos esperan liberación de las formas que se inventaron ellos mismos y que hacen segura su condenación. Mientras rehusen ir y buscar misericordia en Cristo y por Él, para que puedan vivir, el fuego de la ira divina cae sobre ellos. Los hombres pueden hacer un ídolo del mundo, pero hallarán que no puede proteger.

La misma omnipotencia, para los pecadores arrepentidos, puede volver la aflicción y la pena en prosperidad y gozo, y con igual facilidad volver la prosperidad de los pecadores insolentes en profundas tinieblas. Los malos tiempos no producirán trato claro; esto es, los hombres malos no. Indudablemente eran malos estos hombres cuando los sabios y buenos pensaron que era en vano hasta hablarles. —Quienes busquen y amen lo que es bueno pueden ayudar a salvar la tierra de la ruina. Nos corresponde suplicar a Dios las promesas espirituales, rogarle que cree en nosotros un corazón limpio y que renueve un espíritu recto dentro de nosotros. El Señor siempre está listo para ser bondadoso con las almas que lo buscan; y entonces se atenderá a la piedad y a todo el deber. Pero en cuanto al pecador Israel, los juicios de Dios habían pasado a menudo por ellos, ahora pasarán a través de ellos.
